The Cathay Reopens: 5 Places For HK Cafe Fare, Yakiniku From $4.90 And More

The Cathay mall food guide

After two years of renovations, The Cathay has finally reopened, with new tenants slowly filling out the revamped mall! While you may have to wait a bit longer for the mall to be fully operational, there are some decent food options to check out here when you’re in the Dhoby Ghaut area. Here are the 5 best Cathay food places to check out that are currently open!

1. Tsui Wah

As one of the more popular cha chaan teng eateries around, Tsui Wah needs little introduction. This Cathay outlet of theirs offers many of the classics we know and love, including the Crispy Bun with Condensed Milk ($4.20++), best paired with a cup of hot Milk Tea ($3.80++). If you’d like something heartier, consider beloved Hong Kong fare such as Kagoshima-style Pork Cartilage with Tossed Instant Noodles ($10.80++) and Wontons with Shrimp Roe with Tossed Noodles ($11.80++).

Unit number: #01-04
Opening hours: Daily 8:30am to 10pm

Tsui Wah is not a halal-certified eatery.

2. Yakiniku Like

Yakiniku Like offers a quick and affordable barbecue experience for solo diners and small groups. For those looking to dine a la carte, prices for a plate of meat start from just $4.90, with popular options being Karubi Beef Short Plate ($5.90), Pork Belly ($5.90), and even Garlic Butter Karubi ($6.90). Don’t miss out on their set menus, too—the Karubi & Harami Set (from $13.80) gets you beef short plate and skirt steak, along with some rice, salad, and soup!

Unit number: #01-02

3. Wingstop

American fast food chain Wingstop is a no-brainer when you’re craving some delicious fried chicken. Here you can choose from various seasoning flavours, including the classic Louisiana Rub, which features cayenne pepper and garlic, and the citrusy Lemon Pepper. Another must-try is the Kecap Manis, a spicy Indonesian soy sauce that’s deliciously sweet and sticky. For a complete meal, get a 6 PC Boneless Wings Combo ($11.30) or 6 PC Classic Wings Combo ($11.80), both of which come with fries and a ranch dip.

Unit number: #B1-07
Opening hours: Daily 11am to 10pm

4. Fore Coffee

Fore Coffee is a beloved Indonesian franchise that offers a range of unique lattes and tasty pastries. We recommend their signature drinks: Gula Aren Latte ($6.50), Pandan Oat Latte ($6.50), and Butterscotch Sea Salt Latte ($6.50), with the first standing out, blending premium espresso with gula aren, a kind of palm sugar. As for pastries, go for the Kouign Amann ($5) or the Singapore-exclusive Cempedak Crumble Tart ($5.50).

Unit number: #01-14
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 7:30am to 10pm, Sat-Sun 8:30am to 10pm
Tel: 9726 5691

5. Ya Kun

If you want a taste of classic Singaporean breakfast, Ya Kun is hard to beat. We even ranked them as the best kaya toast franchise on the island! The ever-popular Set A ($6.30) gets you crispy toast filled with fragrant kaya and butter, along with half-boiled eggs and either kopi or tea. If you’d like a more indulgent treat, opt for Set B ($6.30), which adds peanut butter to your toast, or Set E ($6.70), which is centred on french toast.

Unit number: #B1-13
Opening hours: Daily 7:30am to 8:30pm

Ya Kun is not a halal-certified eatery but uses no pork or lard.

What to eat at The Cathay

These were some food options to check out at the revamped Cathay. More eateries will open in the coming days, so if we spot any worth trying, we’ll be sure to add them to this list!
