Good news for tonkatsu lovers! This March, a new player will enter Singapore’s tonkatsu scene as Tonkatsu Daiki brings a taste of Osaka right to the heart of Orchard Road. Inspired by the culinary traditions of Japan’s food capital, the restaurant pairs precise tonkatsu craftsmanship with a distinctive Osaka-inspired ambience.

The brand arrives with an impressive pedigree, with its Osaka outlet recognised in the Michelin Guide for four consecutive years. Located at Ngee Ann City, the restaurant upholds the same dedication to precision and craftsmanship it is renowned for, evident in every step of its approach to the art of making tonkatsu.

Each premium pork cutlet at Tonkatsu Daiki is coated in airy panko, AKA Japanese white breadcrumbs, and fried slowly at precisely controlled temperatures. This careful process creates a light, golden crust that is crisp on the outside, while keeping the interior tender and juicy, with a delicate rosy blush at its centre.

The tonkatsu is then paired with thoughtfully prepared accompaniments to complete the experience. At the Osaka branch, sauces include oroshi ponzu, AKA grated daikon with citrus soy, plum-flavoured daikon sauce, miso katsu sauce, and the classic tonkatsu sauce.

Designed to transport diners straight to Osaka, the restaurant’s interior pays homage to the city’s vibrant streets, inspired by the experience of stepping off a JR train straight into bustling Dotonbori. The space reflects Osaka’s bustling food culture, allowing diners to soak in the city’s energy while savouring their carefully crafted tonkatsu.
