Get Japanese High Tea Under $20 At This Michelin-Starred Ramen Chain In Somerset

Tsuta Japanese Dining has high tea at 313 Somerset

Let’s be real, high tea can be expensive in Singapore. But Tsuta Japanese Dining at 313 Somerset proves otherwise with their Japanese-themed high tea that won’t break the bank. My colleague and I were even more excited to try their offerings upon finding out that the Japanese ramen chain is Michelin-starred!

Named the Tsuta Hi-Tea Set, their high tea set for two is great for several occasions—a midday pick-me-up, quality time with your friend, and casual corporate discussions. Priced at $19.80++, each set consists of two savoury mains, two sides, and two desserts. Do note that it’s available from 3pm to 6pm daily!

Starting with the savoury mains, you get 10 options to choose from. We decided to get the Mala Mazesoba and Wagyu Don to give both their noodle and rice options a try. FYI, you have to pay an additional $3.80++ for the latter.

Tsuta Japanese Dining is known for ramen served with a robust broth, so when we were told that mazesoba AKA dry ramen was recently added to their menu, our curiosity was piqued. The mala flavour in this one was on the milder side, but there was still a kick of spice which I thought was just nice.

Their Wagyu Don came with two tender slices of Wagyu atop a bed of pearl rice glazed with what tasted like shoyu marinade. We recommend giving everything a good mix to enjoy this dish to the fullest.

Moving on to the sides, there were a total of 16 different kinds to choose from, with the likes of Teriyaki Chicken Pao and Ebi Fry Nami Maki among the options.

Their Ebi Fry Nami Maki features sushi rice topped with deep-fried shrimp and tangy mayo, and then encased in a crispy nori. This costs an additional $1.80++!

We also tried Kurobishio Mazesoba and two pieces of Ebi Fry, which are part of the savoury main and sides menu respectively. My colleague and I preferred their Kurobishio Mazesoba to the mala one as the addition of black garlic oil and black pepper minced meat made the dish really aromatic.

We ended our high tea experience with the gorgeous Strawberry Daifuku and Matcha Bavaro. The daifuku came stuffed with a strawberry and a layer of sweet red bean paste, and I really liked that the mochi skin was thin and chewy. If fruit desserts are your thing, we recommend giving this a shot.

Plated like a mini terrarium, their Matcha Bavaro had a lovely blend of bittersweet flavours. The earthy taste was quite prominent in this one, which I think matcha lovers can surely appreciate.

Here’s a pro-tip: enjoy an hour of free-flow Highball ($16.80++) alongside your high tea. The combination of whisky and soda with a hint of lemon was exactly the thirst quencher we needed to beat the heat.
