About a month ago, we wrote about Pasta Express, well-loved by university students for its affordable and customisable pasta bowls. This time, we’re placing the spotlight on Wok Express, yet another humble eatery that dishes out value-for-money fried rice in NTU’s North Spine.

Similar to the concept of Pasta Express, Wok Express offers fried rice with a selection of toppings you can choose from. The base price starts at $3 for Egg Fried Rice, Black Fried Rice, or XO Fried Rice, with a minimum of three toppings that are excluded from the fare.

If you’re on a budget, choose three veggie toppings ($0.60 each), with healthy options such as sweet corn, broccoli, spinach, and sous vide egg. This is the cheapest option, standing at just $4.80 per serving.

Alternatively, amp up your protein intake with their lineup of meat add-ons, including sliced beef, chicken thigh, and prawn. Wok Express doesn’t seem to be halal-certified, but their menu contains no pork or lard. They use chicken meat in place of the usual pork in their Chinese sausage and luncheon meat toppings.

If you can’t decide, there are a couple of pre-selected dishes you can opt for instead. Set A ($7.20) gets you egg fried rice with chicken thigh, prawn, Chinese chicken sausage, and sous vide egg, while Set B ($6.60) comes with black fried rice, chicken thigh, Chinese chicken sausage, spinach and sous vide egg.

According to reviewers on Google, the fried rice is said to be laced with wok hei. Patrons also mentioned that Wok Express is generous with the amount of ingredients in each dish.
