We have yet been hit by another bubble tea meteorite. This time, it is Taiwan’s Yunique Tea, with the crash site located at Toa Payoh. With reasonable prices ranging between $2.20 and $4.80, this bubble tea shop also has branches in countries such as Japan, Australia, and Malaysia.
True to its name, the bubble teas here are unique to the hilt. In our recent Johor Bahru vlog, we visited the branch in Taman Mount Austin where we got to try drinks from their Brown Sugar Bearioca, Dirty Cha, Volcano Lava, Cheezo, and Layered Tea Series.
A must-try is The Yunique Speciality. It comes with a base of warm and chewy brown sugar pearls. The intense flavour of brown sugar is found through and through, right to the centre of each pearl. The sweetness of the pearls is then doused down by the mix of fresh milk, whipping cream, and vanilla ice-cream. As if there wasn’t already enough flavour, the drink is topped with a trio of black sesame, walnuts, and peanuts – roasted for an additional dimension to each sip.
If this drink sounds like a flavour overkill for you, opt for their Signature Messy Milk Tea with Brown Sugar Pearls instead. It features the typical fresh milk with brown sugar pearls.
If you’re on #TeamFruitTea, the Hey! Pineapple will blow you away. This drink ranks high on the thirst-quenching scale with its sweet and sour notes. You will also find soft chunks of pineapple that give every gulp a surprise burst of summer sweetness. Served ice-cold, it is a definite treat to beat the heat.
There are also other milk and fruit-based bubble tea that might intrigue you. This includes their Strawberry Dirty Cha which is highly Instagrammable; and Banana Bean Smoothie that’s more of a breakfast drink with ingredients like bananas and red bean.

This trendy bubble tea chain also serves a boba cake, which is only available in a handful of outlets across Malaysia.

Pull up the plastic sheet around the cake, and watch as thick cream flows off its edge, revealing a gooey boba-filled centre. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the boba cake will appear at the Toa Payoh branch as well!
