Laksa fans should be familiar with the famous charcoal-cooked Sungei Road Laksa at Jalan Besar. You can find an almost equally delicious bowl at 63 Laksa, a stall at 20 Ghim Moh Road Market & Food Centre that offers the dish for just $2.80!

Kelly Ng, the store’s owner, upkeeps the recipe from his late grandfather who used to operate a laksa stall along Sungei Road—hence the comparison to Sungei Road Laksa. The main difference though is that he cooks his laksa on a gas stove instead of charcoal to minimise the mess. The stall garners a steady stream of customers daily, who all rave about the freshness and quality of ingredients used.

They’ve got two portion sizes available: Small ($2.80) and Large ($4.80). Each bowl features thick rice noodles cut up into bite-sized pieces, plump cockles, fishcake slices, and beansprouts, laden with their signature spicy and coconutty gravy. Sambal is also added for those who’d like an extra kick of spice.

While the gravy leans towards the lighter side in terms of consistency and colour, it’s no less flavourful—it packs an umami punch that comes from hae bee, AKA dried shrimp.
