It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that matcha latte has taken over our social media pages over the past months. But this trendy beverage isn’t the cheapest to get on a whim in Singapore, with most cafes selling it at upwards of $6 per cup. You can, however, venture across the border and head to Furiku in Johor Bahru, a matcha chain with three outlets, including one at Aeon Tebrau.

The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.30 as of 6 March 2025.

What’s interesting at Furiku is that you can customise your matcha latte with three simple steps. First, choose your matcha level, listed according to intensity: easy (RM9), intermediate (RM11), or advanced (RM14). We got the intermediate for a balanced, bittersweet flavour!

Next, choose a signature base, which costs RM3 each. There are nine options, including taro, pearl, red bean, passion fruit, and strawberry yoghurt.

The final step is to choose your topping from six different options: dark houjicha gelato (RM5), whipped cream (RM2), and chocolate brownies (RM3). We topped our matcha latte with dense brownie cubes for an extra indulgent treat.

If you just want a normal cup of iced Matcha Latte, you can get it at RM10 for a regular size.

This drink sported a vibrant shade of green that we expected in a good matcha latte; we enjoyed the grassy and vegetal notes of the matcha, and its slightly bitter aftertaste. There was a good milk-to-matcha ratio, resulting in a creamy mouthfeel that balanced out the strong matcha.

Though not the most umami, their matcha latte was easily one of the better ones I’ve had compared to the ones I’ve tried in Singapore, especially considering its price point.

FYI, you can choose the sweetness level: 0%, 30%, 60%, or 100%. We found the 30% level just about right.

For those who prefer something more roasted and nutty, there is the iced Houjicha Latte (from RM11) and the iced Dark Houjicha Latte (from RM11).

Furiku has two other outlets at Sutera Mall and opposite KSL. If you’re in the vicinity of any of these three malls, we recommend stopping by to enjoy a good, wallet-friendly matcha latte.
