After nearly two years away from Singapore’s F&B scene, Madeleine’s Original Portuguese Egg Tarts is finally back, this time at Aperia Mall, with a refreshed identity inspired by Macau’s cha chaan teng culture.

Madeleine’s Original Portuguese Egg Tarts Will Close After 26 Years In Katong

Fans will still find all the classics they love, but now with a modern cafe twist that makes it easy to sit back and enjoy their meal.

The brand first earned local acclaim in Tanjong Katong in 1998, becoming synonymous with freshly baked Portuguese egg tarts. The revival has been led by 22-year-old Zac, a SHATEC graduate, and his sister Vernice, who grew up with the brand. With guidance from Madeleine’s OG founder, the siblings have kept the signature egg tarts at the centre of the menu, while adding a variety of new dishes to suit a sit-down cafe setting.

Visitors can still enjoy the iconic Original Portuguese Egg Tart. Still, the menu now also features interesting variations, such as the Gula Melaka Portuguese Egg Tart ($2.50+), which adds a fragrant local twist, and the dessert-forward Po Tat a la Mode ($3.80+), paired with hay-smoked ice cream and milk crumbs for an indulgent treat.

The cafe also serves Macau-inspired savoury dishes. Highlights include the airy Bolo Bun ($3.50+) with flavoured butter and vanilla cream, as well as the Pork Chop Bun ($5.90+) with mustard seed sauerkraut and sweet shoyu glaze, both perfect for teatime. For something heartier, consider the Crab Congee ($8.90+) topped with an onsen egg, and Minchee Rice ($10.90+), a Macanese classic reworked with beef and pork ragu, potato confit, and a soft 63°C onsen egg.

Alternatively, the seasonal Pan Roasted Quail ($15+; $8+ half-portion) brings a delicate twist on Macau’s famed pigeon dish, seasoned with garlic sriracha, roasted rice powder, and charred lemon.

The cha chaan teng itself matches the menu, with a warm, inviting atmosphere and cosy seating that’s perfect for catching up over a leisurely meal. We’ll update this article as soon as we visit the cafe!
