When Golden Mile Complex officially closed its shutters in May 2023, many vendors were forced to relocate. A handful of Thai restaurants and stalls have since shifted to the nearby City Gate, while some others found their home elsewhere. Baan Kanom Thai falls into the latter group, having upgraded to a small eatery in Bendemeer.

Interestingly, Baan Kanom Thai was established in 2020 as a home-based business. Run by a Thai-Singaporean couple, the kiosk is best known for their kanom krok bai toey, AKA Thai Pandan Pancakes. These gooey, kueh-like cakes are perfumed with real pandan extract made in-house, and then cooked on a special pan with flower moulds. These pancakes are priced at $5.50 for 10 pieces.

A purple sweet potato version is also available at $6 for a box of 10!

They also sell Thai Crispy Pancakes ($7 for 10) AKA khanom bueang, a popular Thai night market snack. These feature thin and crispy crepe-like pancakes filled with meringue and sweet egg floss or coconut.

For something more traditional, there’s the Thai Coconut Pancakes ($5.50 for six), AKA khanom babin. These soft, kueh-like pancakes are made with a tapioca flour batter and your flavour of choice, whether sweet corn or black glutinous rice.

Besides sweet snacks, you’ll also find a small range of savoury fare here, from Thai salads to hearty soups and curries. They also serve Thai-style Creamy Crab Omelette Fried Rice ($12), which inspired the launch of their upcoming Tampines stall, Baan Khai Khon.
