Bangkok Jam has vegan Thai food at Great World
With three outlets across the country, Bangkok Jam is quite a recognisable name when it comes to Thai food. The brand isn’t ready to rest on its laurels just yet, though, as it has come up with a new menu that’s more inclusive than ever: while there’s still the usual fare, almost half of the menu now features vegan items.
This revamped menu is currently only available at the Great World outlet, but it will be made available at Plaza Singapura and Marina Square by the end of the year.
Made with plant-based products by renowned brands such as HAPPIEE!, Shandi Global, Love Handle, OnlyEg and many more, Bangkok Jam’s vegan dishes are delicious—at least to this Thai food fan. Even though meat substitutes are used for these dishes, you still get the yummy flavours of Thai cuisine.
Take the Green Curry with Plant-Based Chicken ($14.90++), for instance. The dish sees “chicken” chunks—made from plant-based products by Shandi Global—cooked in a thick and creamy green curry. You can really taste the herbs and spices, such as Thai sweet basil and lime leaf, in the powerful aroma and fragrance of the curry.
Another excellent vegan dish is the Claypot Glass Noodles with Plant-Based Shrimps ($14.90++). Savoury glass noodles are enhanced by Thai spices and cooked in a claypot over high heat, adding a smoky flavour to each chewy strand. Four sweet and bouncy plant-based HAPPIEE! Prawniee shrimps complete the dish.
Out of all the dishes we tried, the Ka Pow OmniMeat Minced Chicken ($15.90++) featured the most convincing meat substitute. The plant-based minced chicken by Shandi Global had a realistic firmness, and was bolstered by the piquant flavours of Thai holy basil and red chilli padi.
If you’re not a fan of meat alternatives, then you can opt for Bangkok Jam’s non-vegan dishes as well. We recommend the Northern Style Hanglay Curry with Grilled Pork and Fresh Pickle ($15.90++), which is a tender and juicy grilled pork collar coated with a fragrant hanglay curry. Other must-trys include the Spicy Smoked Seabass Soup ($12.90++) and Kanom Kho ($9.90++)
