There’s yet another reason to head down to Jewel Changi Airport this week! Lemuel Chocolate has just unveiled Beanfolks, a DIY chocolate bar where chocolate lovers can customise their own drinks around a rotating selection of single-origin chocolates with various cocoa percentages.

Beanfolks’ kiosk boasts a minimalist design, with vibrant orange branding and a display showcasing their chocolate beans. Primarily a grab-and-go concept, the stall provides just two high chairs for those who wish to dine in. Alternatively, patrons can enjoy their drinks while seated in the public seating area opposite the store.

The chocolate beans here are prepared in-house and go through a tedious process before they are ready for consumption. They’re first sorted by hand before undergoing a low-medium roasting process—this enhances the cocoa’s flavours and preserves the beans’ delicate flavours. Then, they’re cracked for their nibs, which are essential in making chocolate, and ground for up to 78 hours in a stone mill.

Ordering is a four-step process. First, choose your base. You can pick from iced or hot Chocolate ($8) or Mocha ($7.50). The former features artisanal Lemuel Chocolate, while the latter is made from single-origin coffee beans.

Next, choose from eight different types of chocolate: 30% White, 54% Milk, 33% Caramel, 60% Soy Milk, 70% Ecuador Dark, 72% House Blend Dark, 85% Cambodia Dark, and 90% Ghana Dark.

You can also opt for different types of milk, such as Dairy, Soy, Oat, or Coconut. Finally, spice up your drink with flavours including Black Sesame, Ginger, Mango, or Cinnamon. You can also top up $0.50 for additional sweet foam or a spongey marshmallow!

During our visit, we referred to Beanfolks’ flavour guide, which includes a list of failsafe options you can try. Our first drink featured a blend of iced mocha with 85% Dark Chocolate and Oat Milk, flavoured with sea salt. It’s easy to drink and not too sweet, with the dark chocolate lending a subtle hint of bitterness.

If you prefer something sweeter, consider ordering this combo comprising iced chocolate, 70% Dark Chocolate, soya milk, and black sesame. The black sesame imparts a nuanced, nutty flavour that pairs nicely with the soya milk’s beany notes.

chocolate hojicha

Our only hot beverage was hot chocolate with hojicha, mixed with 30% White Chocolate and dairy milk. This is a great option for those looking for something extra creamy with distinct, earthy notes of hojicha.

All our drinks cost $8 each, except the iced mocha with sea salt, which cost $7.50.

While waiting for your order, you can also personalise your own cup sleeves with the cute stamps and inkpad available at Beanfolks’ counter, or check out their range of sweet treats, which include chocolate brownies ($5.50), chocolate cookies ($5), and caneles ($4.50).

You can also enjoy two drinks for just $12 from now until 12 December 2023, so head down to Beanfolks ASAP if you don’t want to miss out!
