Best mooncakes for Mid-Autumn Festival 2024
We’re approaching September, which means the Mid-Autumn Festival is around the corner. With so many brands coming up with all kinds of mooncakes, it can be difficult to keep up with what flavours to buy this year. Worry not, as we’ve done the legwork to find the best mooncakes for 2024 so you don’t have to!
Table of Contents
1. Raffles Hotel Singapore
For some of the best snowskin mooncakes in 2024, consider Raffles Hotel Singapore as they have a gorgeous selection in six different flavours. This year, they have rolled out two new flavours for you to try: Sudachi & Blueberry with Gin Truffle Snow-Skin Mooncake ($97) and Chestnut & Tahitian Vanilla with Rum Truffle Snow-Skin Mooncake ($97). Each box comes with eight pieces!
Since the Mid-Autumn Festival is an annual event, we also recommend splurging on the limited edition Baijiu Black Sesame Truffle Snow-Skin Mooncake ($108). This delicate mooncake has rich chocolate mixed with Guojiao 1573 Classic Baijiu alcohol with an earthy black sesame undertone. For a non-alcoholic option, the Sakura & Raspberry Truffle Snow-Skin Mooncake ($97), which comes in a pretty pastel pink shade, is a great choice—you get the sweet-tangy flavour of fresh raspberries with a hint of floral notes from the cherry blossoms.

2. PAUL
Forget mooncakes for a while, and give these moon tarts from PAUL a shot if you’re down to try something new. Their Moon Tart Collection ($78) comes in a box of eight pieces with four different flavours.
Pistachio has been all the craze lately, and if you love it as much as we do, then you’ll enjoy the Forever Summer flavour: pistachio almond cream with pineapple and mango curd mooncake packed with a tangy molten passion fruit, atop a white chocolate moon tart shell. Another trendy flavour is the Matcha Mochi, starring chewy mochi and smooth matcha ganache within a matcha chocolate shell. For something slightly healthier, try the Five-Star Sensation, made with lots of nourishing ingredients: black sesame seeds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, sliced almonds, dried apricot, and candied winter melon for an added crunch! Lastly, there’s the Dark Treasure, which comprises dark chocolate ganache with crunchy caramel pearls and brownies.

3. Goodwood Park Hotel
We are eyeing these handcrafted mooncakes from Goodwood Park Hotel, prepared by Hong Kong master chefs. A box of the Snowskin Combo ($84+) is perfect for gifting too, given how pretty the packaging and mooncakes are.
A box comes with four fruity flavours: Mango with Pomelo, Cempedak, D24 Durian, and the newly launched Kumquat Melon with Macadamia. The latter consists of a kumquat-infused cream with melon chunks and a layer of macadamia paste atop a crumbly tart base. Everything is then carefully wrapped in a snowskin layer! And if you love the king of fruits, durian season’s not quite over, so this is your chance to indulge in the hotel’s D24 mooncake, which stars a velvety smooth durian paste.

4. Godiva
If you’re looking for the best mooncakes in 2024, Godiva is another brand to consider, as they offer a unique spin on the bakes. Their recently launched Mid Autumn Mooncake Giftbox (from $89) comes in four sizes, depending on how many mooncakes you want. FYI, it ranges from 10 to 24 pieces in a gift box!
Our favourite flavour was the Black Sesame Pineapple Milk Chocolate Mooncake thanks to the lovely blend of sweet-tangy pineapple, creamy milk chocolate, and nutty black sesame. The Black Truffle Apricot Dark Chocolate Mooncake was a close runner-up. To our surprise, the black truffle ganache and apricot paired really well—you’ll surely enjoy this if you prefer complex flavour profiles. For something fruity, opt for the Raspberry & Rose White Chocolate Mooncake and Matcha Citrus White Chocolate Mooncake instead.

Another brand to add to your mooncake list is Thye Moh Chan, known for their handcrafted traditional Teochew mooncakes. The homegrown chain has been around since 1943, and loyal patrons return time and time for their baked goods. You can anticipate the Joyous Reunion Gift Set ($70.80) this year, which can be purchased from BreadTalk and Toast Box stores till 17 September.
In light of their 80th anniversary, Thye Moh Chan has launched two new savoury flavours: Assorted Nuts with Lotus Paste and Mushroom with Vegetarian Braised Meat. The gift set also sees four other flavours, including the popular Yuan Yang with Salted Egg Yolk and Salty Tau Sar with Salted Egg Yolk, their signature Sweet Tau Sar with Melon Seeds, and the classic Teochew Double Delight. There’s a good balance of sweet and savoury treats in one set, so we recommend this if you can’t decide what to get this year.
7. Andaz Singapore
Andaz Singapore’s new mooncake lineup is one to look out for this year: the 5 ON 25 Mooncakes Set ($90), comprising four mooncakes in assorted flavours, is the perfect gift to impress your family and friends.
Starting with two flavours that made a return by popular demand, we have the Silver Lotus Mooncake and Signature Tea Mooncake. The former presents delicate layers of white lotus paste and golden egg yolk at the core, all encased within a beautiful baked crust. If you love anything tea-flavoured, you’ll love the latter as it features a medley of osmanthus, oolong, and pu’er tea. Otherwise, go for their interesting renditions of Truffle-damia Twist Mooncake and Red Date Jubilee Mooncake, where the former is a delightful combination of macadamia, white lotus paste, and truffle oil, while the latter spotlights longan, sweet red dates, and creamy lotus paste.

8. Hilton Singapore Orchard
Hilton Singapore Orchard‘s mooncake lineup for 2024 blends traditional flavours with a trendy twist. This is apparent with their four-piece Black Sesame with Biscoff ($88) and Hor Ka Sai (Local Nanyang Coffee & Milo) with Mochi ($88) sets, which we believe will tickle the fancy of both the young and old.
The Black Sesame with Biscoff flavour comes with traditional black sesame paste paired with lotus paste, accompanied by crunchy bits of Biscoff biscuits in every bite. Mochi lovers, on the other hand, must try the Hor Ka Sai with Mochi: this mooncake is made with lotus paste mixed with Nanyang kopi and Milo, and a soft, chewy mochi at the centre. This flavour is not just moreish, but also really special as it pays homage to our local culture.Â

Each mochi-snowskin mooncake comes with an ice cream of your choice wrapped in soft and chewy mochi skin. Out of the four we tried, our favourites were the Black Sesame and Purple Sweet Potato. Alternatively, go big or go home with the Cookies ‘N’ Cream Ice Cream ($68.80). Shaped to resemble a moon, this huge ball is encased in a silver chocolate shell. When you break into it, you’ll find Swensen’s signature cookies and cream ice cream with a salted egg yolk at the centre.
