Bokashi is a Japanese-inspired teahouse in Canggu
When my colleagues went to Canggu, Bali for a work trip, they were so mesmerised by a certain cafe that they ended up going twice—with the second time funded out of their own pocket. That cafe was Bokashi, a teahouse that has a distinctly Japanese-inspired design.
The place also has an interesting setup. The first floor houses a gourmet grocery store, which offers fresh produce, bulk grains and seeds, herbs and spices, tea and more.
The second level features a spacious Japan-inspired dining area complete with tatami mats and wooden flooring. So after you do your shopping downstairs, you can head upstairs to rest your weary feet and soothe your soul with some delightful tea and yummy eats. The menu features products that can be purchased from the grocery store downstairs, so if you like what you’ve tasted, you can return downstairs to purchase that as well.
Bokashi is known for their popular single-origin Indonesian teas such as the Pearl Classic Oolong (IDR35K/~S$3.14) from Mount Halimun, which has natural jasmine notes, and the White Silver Needle (IDR40K/~S$3.59) from Mount Burangrang, known for its light floral aromas. They’ve also got matcha, kombucha, coffee, and a whole lot more drinks to choose from.
The teahouse provides main dishes such as Chilled Soba Noodles (IDR75K/~S$6.73), featuring buckwheat noodles served with ponzu, nori, daikon, chives, and wasabi. Additionally, you can enhance your meal by adding a side of Mixed Tempura for an extra IDR30K (~S$2.69).
