In Singapore’s saturated bubble tea scene that’s dominated by Chinese players such as Molly Tea and CHAGEE, it is often difficult for local brands to stand out or even stay afloat. But there are still a few underrated neighbourhood gems that provide a solid alternative, and one of them is Bubble Bliss, tucked under a HDB block at Hougang Avenue 1.

Having earned a near-perfect 4.8-star Google rating, the store has built a strong reputation among fans for its extensive menu of high-quality tea-based beverages. They pride themselves on crafting fresh drinks daily with honest ingredients, sweetened with cane sugar or honey for an added natural sweetness.

They offer a wide variety of drinks across different categories, starting with their Bliss Milk Tea series, which includes staples such as the classic Milk Tea ($3.70) and Mango Milk Tea ($5.80). For something lighter and more refreshing, try their Bliss Flavoured Tea range, featuring Peach Black Tea ($3.80) and Melon Signature Tea ($4.80), or their brewed tea selections, which includes Jasmine Green Tea ($2.40) and Bliss Signature Tea ($3.80). 

If you are in need of a caffeine kick, you can also opt for their Bliss Coffee selection, which include Coffee Latte, Mocha, and Yuen Yang ($5.20). Best of all, every drink comes with one free topping of your choice, with selections such as Passion Fruit Pop, Aiyu Jelly, Grass Jelly, and Water Chestnut Pop.

A good benchmark of any bubble tea shop is their tea offerings, so we decided to try the Earl Grey Tea ($2.50). The bold tea base carried a pleasant maltiness that blended well with the citrusy and floral notes, while the White Pearls added a delightful chewy and bouncy texture. Crucially, it was not overly sweet. 

We levelled things up with the Brown Sugar Milk Tea ($4.20), paired with the quintessential Brown Sugar Pearl topping. It stood out for its distinct smoky, caramel-like sweetness from the sticky signature earthy syrup.

The soft tapioca pearls were the highlight here, well-infused with a caramelised flavour.

We also tried their Passion Fruit Four Season Tea ($4.80), a refreshing tropical beverage with a smooth, floral finish. The drink carried a distinct sweetness alongside a pronounced jasmine fragrance, while the added Mango Pops provided a delightful burst of fruity flavour with every sip. 

But perhaps the most pleasant part about purchasing your drinks at Bubble Bliss is just how friendly the service is. Run by a cheerful couple with warm smiles, the shop offers a delightful experience from start to finish.

Overall, Bubble Bliss offers a compelling alternative for those looking to venture off the beaten track from conventional bubble tea chains. Beyond the complimentary toppings, the quality of their tea bases help to elevate the experience even further. The only downside is that the shop may be slightly out of the way for those who may not be staying around the area. Still, we will definitely be back to try their other flavours!
