While The Star Vista might be the only place that pops up in your mind when “Buona Vista food” is mentioned, it’s not the only spot you can get food at when you’re in the area. The food scene in the area is more vibrant than what people give it credit for, so we’ve gathered the must-try Buona Vista food spots to prove it.


1. New Lucky Claypot Rice

Make your walk to Holland Drive Market worth it with New Lucky’s Claypot Rice ($15 for two people)

With a generous serving of succulent chicken chunks as well as slices of lup cheong, you can be sure you’re getting good value and flavour here. Be sure to try a spoonful of the fragrant rice before adding dark soy sauce to it!

2. Ice On You


Expect XXL Thai Milk Tea chendol and other Bangkok-style desserts at Ice On You, another hawker stall at Ghim Moh Market and Food Centre

Their Chendol Sundae ($5) is a noteworthy dessert, glazed with gula melaka and topped with red beans, atap seeds, and strands of pandan jelly. Otherwise, you can get their ice cream and waffle combo for just $6.90! There are four ice cream flavours to choose from: coconut, chocolate, choco-coco, and vanilla. There are also three drizzle flavours to choose from, including maple syrup, palm syrup, and chocolate.

3. Hin Fried Hor Fun

Located within Ghim Moh Market, Hin Fried Hor Fun is a hawker stall that specialises in – you guessed it – hor fun. 

This place gives you the freedom to pick your toppings among options including prawns, beef and sliced fish, and the price stays at $6 no matter which combination you pick. They are generous with portions and each plate comes with strong wok hei. The stall is incredibly popular, so be prepared to queue for food here.

4. Jiu Jiang Shao La

Also found at Ghim Moh Market is Jiu Jiang Shao La. This roasted meats stall lets you customise your plate with sio bak, char siew and roasted duck, and prices start at $4 for a plate of duck rice. 

Char siew here is lightly charred and evenly coated with their sweet sauce. Go for the sio bak, which can be slightly salty, but has an incredibly satisfying crackling. Remember to pop by early as they close after lunch and, just like at Hin Fried Hor Fun, be prepared to wait a fair bit before getting your food.

5. Les Bouchons

Wow your significant other with a classy dinner at Les Bouchons. Housed in a two-storey bungalow, the steakhouse serves classic French cuisine.

If you’re planning a lunch date, you’ll be pleased to know that their Three-course Set Lunch is relatively inexpensive. At $39++ per person, you’ll be treated to your choice of entree, one main, and a dessert or drink. Alternatively, you can get their French Ceps Soup ($17++) and Grilled Sirloin Wagyu (from $92++) separately! Do note that all steak dishes come with a side of free-flow fries.

6. Orange & Teal


Orange & Teal at Rochester Mall serves lunchtime mains from 11:30am onwards, with a menu comprising pastries, small bites, and cakes. 

The Beef Pie ($13.80++) makes for a good breakfast snack, sporting a golden brown crust with pulled beef filling hidden within. Their Creamy Tuscan Butter Salmon ($24.80+) is a popular choice among patrons as it consists of a creamy linguine in butter sauce, served with a poached salmon fillet.

7. Ghim Moh Carrot Cake


Family-run hawker Ghim Moh Carrot Cake was one of the stalls mentioned in our guide to the best black carrot cake in Singapore. Their handmade chai tow kway is so popular that the queue forms from 6:30am!

Their fried carrot cake is available in limited portions daily. You can get a plate of their famous black carrot cake for $3, $4, or $5! If you’re a fan of sweeter-tasting carrot cake, Ghim Moh Carrot Cake will surely float your boat. But not to worry even if you’re not, as each plate comes with a side of chilli, which helps to temper the overall sweetness.

8. Long Black Cafe

Tucked away in Biopolis, Japanese-inspired cafe Long Black Cafe offers a good range of handmade pasta, sandwiches and more for those working in the vicinity.

Let’s start with their handmade pasta, which comes in six different flavours. Out of the six, the Salmon Mentaiko Cream ($15.90+) and Seafood Bisque ($14.90+) are said to be constant favourites among patrons. If you’d like to upgrade your meal with a soup and a drink, you just have to pay an additional $4.50+! Alternatively, there’s the Grandma’s Chicken Sandwich ($13.50+) featuring grilled chicken with mozzarella cheese, fried egg, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto sauce, and a side of fries.

9. MONKI

Taiwanese cafe MONKI offers a hearty range of foods and desserts at wallet-friendly prices. Even better, it’s conveniently located at The Star Vista near Buona Vista MRT Station.  

When visiting a Taiwanese eatery, it’s a must to get the Oyster Mee Sua ($9.80+) and Just Braised Pork Rice ($6+). For the latter, you get a generous serving of braised pork meat, braised egg, tau pok, and pickled vegetables. If you’re not feeling too peckish, get their Ham Egg Roll ($7+) or Cheese Sausage Egg Roll ($8+) instead. We recommend ending your meal with their extensive range of Taiwanese snowflake desserts, including flavours Yam Snowflake ($8+), Black Sesame Snowflake ($7+), and Mango Snowflake ($7+).

10. 63 Laksa

63 Laksa is all about fresh ingredients, affordable prices, and delicious laksa. Make sure you time your visit well as the stall only opens from Tuesday to Friday!

Their laksa is available in two sizes: Small ($2.80) and Large ($4.80). You get a generous amount of fresh cockles, thick rice noodles, fishcake slices, and a thick gravy infused with coconut milk. Don’t forget to ask for a scoop of sambal if you enjoy spice in your laksa! There’s also Otak-Otak ($1.40) to make your meal even more substantial.

11. Wild Crumbs

Newly opened in 2023, Wild Crumbs is the place to visit for affordably-priced sando and Japanese rice bowls. 

Their menu sees eight types of sandos, including Tamagoyaki ($9), Egg Mayo ($9), Pork Katsu ($13), Spam Tamago ($13), and Smoked Salmon ($15). For something more filling, there are rice bowls such as Tamago Mentaiko Bowl ($12) and Chicken Katsu Bowl ($14). Each bowl comes with fresh cabbage and an onsen egg!

12. CALI

CALI is a restaurant that serves up Mexican-inspired fare. There’s also an affordable three-course set lunch offered here from 11am to 2:30pm!

For starters, get their Cali Wings ($18++) that’s perfect for sharing. These mid-joint wings are marinated in BBQ sauce, and the dish comes with six pieces. There’s also the Chicken Fajita ($26++): a hearty plate of tender chicken slices, mixed greens, tortilla wraps, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and salsa. Else, we recommend their Tom Yam Risotto ($28++), a creamy rice dish topped with prawns and pumpkins.
