Burgs Review: Popular Muslim-Owned Eatery In Somerset With Burgers From $6.80

Burgs by Project Warung at 313@somerset

The famous Muslim-owned burger brand, Burgs by Project Warung, is showing no signs of slowing down. It is run by two local chefs, Indra and Ridz, who previously worked in Michelin-starred restaurants before starting this burger journey together. With their expertise, Indra and Ridz opened Burgs to specialise in gourmet burgers—but at affordable prices.

Since their first opening, Burgs has grown and expanded to four outlets around Singapore, including the one we recently visited in 313@somerset.

Food at Burgs by Project Warung

The first item we tried was the Black Pepper Beef Burger ($6.80 single, $9.80 double). We were feeling particularly peckish that day, so we decided to get the double patty version, as we did for the other two burgers we tried as well.

This dish combined beef patties with black pepper sauce, onion relish, and cheddar cheese, all sandwiched between perfectly browned burger buns. The two beef patties here were tender and well-grilled, and together they made for quite the meaty package. However, the patties weren’t as juicy as I thought they would be.

The black pepper sauce had a nice earthy flavour, but it lacked the spicy kick we were expecting. Some of that slack was picked up by the onion relish, which added tanginess, sweetness, and a nice crunch to each bite.

While the dish had some shortcomings, I thought it was a decent, well-balanced burger overall. Our next dish, however, is surely one for those who prefer intense flavours in their burgers.

The BLT Beef Burger ($8,80 single, $11.80 double) packed crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheddar cheese, and of course, beef patties. Russian dressing was chosen to hold the dishes’ flavours together, but personally, I was not enamoured with this combination of flavours—it was simply too jelak for my palate.

Still, meat lovers may enjoy the beef-and-bacon duo here. The crispy bacon did contrast the soft patties well enough, and we appreciated how the bacon pieces weren’t too fatty or oily.

If you had to choose one side of fries, we recommend you get the Cuban Fries ($5.50), which pairs fries with succulent pulled beef and light mayo.

Ambience at Burgs by Project Warung

Located beside Somerset MRT Station, Burgs can be found in one of the four corners at Food Republic, 313@somerset. They have a small designated area for their customers to dine in, which has a different vibe from the surrounding food court. However, this area has limited seats, so do come early if you’d like to dine within their store. If not, there are ample seats available in the food court.

The verdict

For the price, Burgs serves up pretty decent gourmet burgers. They aren’t perfect by any means, but for sizable burgers that are generally under $12, I’d say these are worth your money.
