Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen returns to Holland V
New shopping mall One Holland Village recently opened its doors to the public, treating visitors to a plethora of retail stores and restaurants. One of the standout restaurants is Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen, marking the return of the Cantonese restaurant to the Holland Village neighbourhood.
A seven-minute walk from Holland Village MRT Station, this Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen outlet is conveniently located and stylishly furnished. It is also spacious enough to accommodate family gatherings or corporate lunches. When it comes to Hong Kong-style Cantonese food in a casual setting, Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen checks all the boxes.
Start your meal with the restaurant’s wide array of dim sum. You’ll find many classics here, including the BBQ Pork Bun ($6.50++), Siew Mai with Fish Roe ($8.30++), and Baked Egg Tart ($5.80++).
One standout dim sum is the Steamed Cheong Fun with Dough Fritter ($6.80++), which is silky on the outside and slightly crispy on the inside. It is also light on the palate, making it an ideal appetiser for your Cantonese feast.
Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen is also known for its meat dishes such as the Roasted Meat Platter. You can choose between having a platter of two types of meat for $26.80++, or three types of meat for $30.80++. Once you’ve decided on the platter size, you can pick what meat you’d like to have on your platter. Options include crispy pork belly, roasted honey BBQ pork, roasted duck, soya sauce chicken, and Crystal Jade’s signature pork belly—this last one requires an additional $3++.
Of the meat we tried, we were most fond of the Crystal Jade Signature Pork Belly, AKA fei char siew. With a nice meat-to-fat ratio and addictive sweet-savoury glazing, this dish ticked all our boxes for good char siew.
If you’d like to have some soup, there is perhaps no better option than the best-selling Braised Shredded Seafood with Superior Thick Soup ($29.80++). Using plenty of crab meat and prawns, the broth is infused with the sweetness of the seafood ingredients, making it a comforting and moreish claypot dish.
Speaking of claypot dishes, the Claypot Rice with Chinese Sausage, Mushroom & Chicken ($22.80++) is a hearty addition to your meal. Filled to the brim with ingredients and dark soy sauce-infused rice, this dish will both impress you with its savoury goodness and sate your hunger in no time.
Another excellent main dish to try is the Shrimp Wanton Noodle ($11.80++). This Hong Kong classic comes in dry and soup versions, and features egg noodles along with kai lan and a few pieces of wonton.
With fresh and plump wontons that erupt into juicy goodness upon biting, and springy noodles that are a joy to slurp on, Crystal Jade’s rendition of wonton mee is wholly satisfying. Don’t be afraid to have the dish for takeaway, as the noodles retain their springiness even after some time has passed.
