From the viral crookie at Sweedy Patisserie to orh nee waffles at Creme by Lele Bakery, North-East cafes have recently been on the grind with their dessert offerings. Adding to this list of impressive cafes in the area is Denzy Gelato, which offers award-winning gelato, brownies and more.
Denzy Gelato’s co-founder, Mr Damien Yau, travelled to Italy to learn the ropes. He then won the Singapore Gelato Championship in 2019, earning the title of “Singapore’s Best Gelato”. This feat reflects how the gelato here is thoughtfully made with quality ingredients, guaranteed to be fresh and tasty.
The flavour that won them the award is the Pear, Ginger, Ginger Flower flavour. When we tried this unique combination, we loved how richly flavoured it was! The zestiness of the ginger complementing the fruity sweetness of pear made it a truly refreshing treat. This flavour will make a return in July 2024, so keep your eyes peeled!
The cafe also offers an extensive selection of gelato flavours to choose from. You can select from their specialty collection including Piedmont Hazelnut and Whisky and Salted Pecan Brittle, or go for their Lychee sorbet. For something exotic, try their premium selection where you can get the Caramelized Banana & Chocolate Chips or Yoghurt Speculoos flavour. A single scoop is priced from $4.20, while a double scoop is priced from $7.50.
If you’re worried about your sugar intake, try their new flavours such as Chrysanthemum Goji, Chocolate Delite, Black Sesame, and Hazelatte. FYI, these have no added sugar!
Our favourite flavour was the black sesame gelato. Each scoop was aromatic from the roasted black sesame along with chunky bits of crushed black sesame within.
Another honourable mention goes to the Alphonso Mango Sorbet which presented an impressively smooth texture with pronounced flavours of fresh mangoes, making it a delightful treat on a hot day. FYI: these new gelato flavours have added prebiotic fibres that are said to keep blood sugar levels regular even after enjoying them.
Besides the new gelato flavours, the Cinnamon Banana Waffle ($7.90) is a new addition to the menu! This dessert featured a cinnamon waffle topped with sliced bananas cooked in salted caramel, then served with extra salted caramel on the side along with Biscoff crumbs as the finishing touch. You can also add $3.90 for a scoop of gelato for the best experience.
The cafe is known for their award-winning gelato, but guess what—their Brownies are equally popular among the regulars. For $6.30, you get a large, warm slab of dark chocolate brownies which can also be topped with gelato for $3.90 a scoop. We got ours topped with their Roasted Bronte Pistachio gelato. The chocolate and pistachio were nutty and helped to mellow down the bitterness of the dark chocolate flavour.
