Good news for all Din Tai Fung fans: you can now get your breakfast fix, exclusively available at the chain’s new Novena Square outlet!

The new breakfast menu stars all-new Pan Fried Buns in four flavours: Pork, Cabbage and Pork,  Chilli Crab and Pork ($3.90++ for one, $10.90++ for three), and Shrimp and Pork ($3.50++ for one, $9.90++ for three). The first two flavours are $3.20++ for one and  $8.90++ for three.

Each sheng jian bao boasted a crispy bottom and fluffy middle, with a substantial pork filling within. We particularly enjoyed the cabbage version as the vegetable added some natural sweetness and crunch to the bun.

The chilli crab filling was another highlight on our visit; here you get savoury crab shreds in a piquant chilli crab sauce, paired with the same juicy pork.

You’ll also find an assortment of new Steamed Buns, stuffed with Chocolate, Butter, and Purple Sweet Potato. The first two flavours are priced at $2.80 for one and $7.80 for three, while the sweet potato bun goes for $2.50 for one and $6.90 for three.

Interestingly, each bun is handmade with traditional sourdough, which results in its cloud-like fluffiness and soft texture.

The sweet potato bun was packed with a thick and creamy paste that resembled yam. You’ll love this if you like orh nee!

The chocolate flavour, on the other hand, was richer with a decadent dark chocolate middle.

Those who want something simpler can opt for the butter bun instead, which comes with a lava butter centre.

You can have dessert for breakfast too, with Din Tai Fung’s new Steamed Lava Chocolate Cake Xiao Long Bao ($10.90++ for six, $16.90++ for 10). This looks similar to the seasonal chocolate lava buns, done xiao long bao-style. Here, each XLB comes with a chocolate cake-flavoured ganache that oozes out once you bite into the bun. The molten filling is sweet and rich, yet not too jelak on the palate.
