10 Expo Food Places You Can Walk To From Expo MRT Station In 10 Minutes

Expo food places you can walk to from Expo MRT Station

Sometimes a friend will suddenly suggest we go watch planes take off at the airport and I’ll stifle a groan about the hour-long journey to expect when going home. By late afternoon we’d have walked two rounds in the airport hunting for cheap food, which ends in their food court or with us travelling back to town with rumbling tummies. For a change, I’ve compiled 10 Expo food places with a range of cuisines that we can check out instead, since it’s only a stop away from the airport, and here’s what you can get the next time you find yourself in the area as well!

1. Wolf Burgers

Only at Changi City Point can you wolf down on The Chief Meal ($9.90) from Wolf Burgers that’s limited to 50 sets a day. Picture a slightly smaller version of their popular The Wolf Burger ($9.90) with a side of fries and soda. Besides that, this outlet also lets you get their Wolfpack Meal which serves four burgers, four sodas, and two fries at $39.90 from 6pm onwards on weekdays and all day on weekends. They sure give reason to head down with your pack.

It doubles up as a casual eatery with scrumptious Japanese salads ($12++) and rice bowls like their Buta Kakuni Don ($12++). Give their Unagi Pizza ($18++) a go or snack on their skewers which start from $4++ for a pair.

Set A ($15.99++) offers heartier choices like sirloin steak and honey pork ribs, and comes with a drink. Set B ($11.99++) has another five options for mains, like veggie aglio olio or half a spring chicken, with an extra $1.50++ for a drink.

If you have to travel a distance to get to the Expo, you might as well do one for the gram at fArt tArtz. Pull up spaghetti served in dainty glass jars and taste their Bulbous Oriental ($14.90) with smoked duck. There’s also a new Red Caviar Mentai ($18.90) with savoury mentaiko cream sauce on the menu. If you’re with friends, add variety to the picture with some Grilled Flatbread Burgers, especially with the new Gooey Mentaiko Fish ($17.90). But die-hard salted egg yolk lovers might find it hard to resist their Goldie Salted Egg Chix ($15.90) that comes with chicken chunks. Also don’t forget to pose with Flower-potted “Mud” Tarts ($5.50) which comes in Nutella Oreo, cookie butter, matcha, and mango flavours, before digging your spoon into the pretty dessert.

Chilling out at hipster bistros sounds cool but they can be so ulu it sometimes feels like too much effort. Easily accessible from Expo MRT Station is Table Manners, a restaurant with comforting Western cuisine like spaghetti and seafood mains, as well as bar snacks and desserts. Their TM Ribs ($20++ for half, $36++ for a full rack) that comes with potato wedges and a salad makes a sumptuous meal. You can also call for an order of Mary’s Little Lamb ($23++) instead, which is braised lamb shank with mashed potatoes. Otherwise ask for their Three Little Pigs ($16++) with breaded pork cutlet, garlic aioli, mashed potatoes, and house salad.

7. Pondok Kartika

At times, I crave for Indonesian food and nothing else. Pondok Kartika is a Muslim-owned Indonesian restaurant that’s good for groups. Snack on their Satay Kartika ($8.50+) and chow down into their Ayama Lemak Kartika ($14.50) which is tender chicken cooked in a rich gravy of coconut milk and chilli. Have it with Nasi Goreng Istimewa ($13.95+) which is fried rice with spices, chicken and prawn satay. If you’re dining individually though, their Ayam Pengyet ($9.80+) or Kampong Set Meal ($9.90+) with tanhu tetur (tofu omelette), sayur lodeh (vegetable curry), and beef rendang are recommended.

Address: 5 Changi Business Park Central 1, #01-44, Changi City Point, Singapore 486038

8. Wrap & Roll

@ntnamhair

Wrap & Roll is where you can get hands-on with roll-it-yourself dishes, snack on skewers, or indulge in hot pots. Hanoi grilled pork skewers ($9.90++) are two sticks of appetising pork belly served with springy rice noodle, herbs, and tangy pickles. Wrap the ingredients in rice paper and fold it like a popiah before dipping it into sauce to eat. Their Banh Xeo ($15.90++) is also interesting as a crispy crepe dish with prawns, pork, bean sprouts, and mushrooms. This dish is enough for two but bigger groups can order their Vegetarian ($14.90++), Chicken ($16.90++), or Beef ($16.90++) hot pots to share.

Vietnamese food lovers, Mrs Pho is one gem you have to visit for affordable and delicious pho.

9. Ootaya

@travel.with.cony

Ootaya serves Japanese meals in wholesome sets that would smooth out my frowns. For something savoury, their Hokke ($17.80++ a la carte, 22.80++ for a set) set has charcoal grilled mackerel with rice, freshly grated radish, miso soup, and pickles. They also have Chirashi Don ($23.20++ per set) which is topped with tuna, yellowtail amberjack, salmon, and eel. It’s complete with an appetiser, chawanmushi, pickles, and miso soup to wash it down all. You can also call for delivery if you place an order at least two days in advance.

10. Sakunthala’s Restaurant

@mel_ismael

The halal-certified Sakunthala’s Restaurant has a huge menu of North, South and Indian-Chinese fare. You can delight in staples like Fish Head Curry ($26+/$30+) which uses a whole angoli fish head, or share a spicy Masala Crab ($14+). Their Biryani Meals ($5+) come with fragrant biryani rice, two types of veggies, chicken gravy, dalcha, and raitha. I also love naan when I can get some because they’re not as easy to find. At Sakunthala, try interesting ones like Seafood Naan ($4.50+) and Kashmiri Naan ($4.40+) which is stuffed with fried fruits and nuts.

Exploring Expo got easier!

I usually head down to the Expo to check out their IT fairs or because my mum wants to hit one of their mega sales. That adds up to under five times a year but that might changes thanks to all these food. If you were clueless like me about what’s there to eat, hopefully this will help. Let us know in the comments below if you know of other makan places nearby! For more food along the Downtown Line, check out these nosh at Tampines West!
