My close friends love to tease and call me “Mr. Discount”, as I always manage to sniff out the best food deals. Other than them, I don’t usually share these lobangs too widely—I’d rather not ruin the deal. That said, Fat Bird Chicken Hotpot’s chicken rice lunch promo is simply too good to gatekeep. Located right in the heart of Bugis, the popular restaurant offers delicious plates of steamed Kampung Chicken Rice for just $3++!
To enjoy this deal, head down for lunch on weekdays from 11am to 3pm. We recommend coming early, as they only serve 100 portions of $3 chicken rice daily.
Do note that you’ll have to order this at the front counter, as the offer isn’t listed on their QR code menu.
Each plate comes with a healthy serving of chicken rice, steamed chicken, and fresh cucumber slices.
Unlike other chicken rice joints, Fat Bird uses kampung chicken—and we could immediately tell the difference. The meat was noticeably leaner than what we’re used to, but still juicy, tender, and succulent. Each slice was topped with a glossy, yellow-ish skin that was soft, silky, and perfectly QQ in texture.
The rice was just as impressive. Every mouthful was light and fluffy, boasting a fragrant aroma that complemented the chicken.
Dip the chicken into their chilli sauce for a spicy, fragrant kick. Don’t forget the house-made ginger paste, made with a flavourful blend of chives, garlic, scallion oil, and freshly minced ginger.
Apart from the chicken rice, they’ve also partnered with the Katong-famous Amapang Niang Tou Fu for a special menu, featuring double-boiled soups and yong tau foo.
As part of the lunch promo, you can enjoy their soups as an add-on for an extra $1.90++. You can also get them as a standalone dish at $5.50++ for standard flavours and $6.50++ for premium flavours.
The Watercress Soup ($5.50++) is a favourite, starring meaty, fall-apart tender pork ribs and fresh watercress in a comforting savoury-sweet soup.
They’ve got a wide selection of ingredients to customise your yong tau foo with, including springy fishball, silky beancurd, and stuffed foo chook, the latter comprising a tasty pork and fish filling. FYI, all ingredients go for an affordable $0.90++ each, with a minimum order of five items.
Choose to have your YTF served dry with a drizzle of savoury-sweet dark soy sauce, or in a light broth.
The restaurant tends to get pretty crowded during peak hours, so it’s best to head down early.
