Four Beans is a popular dessert cafe in Johor Bahru Mount Austin
If there’s one takeaway from my trip to Johor Bahru, it would be that Malaysians take their dessert very seriously like many of us here in Singapore. I had this realisation at Four Beans, a popular dessert chain with nine outlets across the country.

We highly recommend the World of Taro Soy Beancurd (RM16+/~S$4.60) to enjoy the best of both worlds: creamy taro and soft beancurd.
You get a huge bowl of soya beancurd, taro beancurd, taro balls, and orh nee chunks. It also comes with brown sugar and soya milk on the side which you can add according to your liking. The taro-infused dessert is mildly sweet on its own, so you can skip the brown sugar if you don’t have a sweet tooth.
Then, we moved on to the Black Sesame Shaved Ice with Taro Ball (RM20+/~S$5.70). This hearty Taiwanese dessert features a pile of shaved black sesame ice topped with a scoop of sweet red bean paste and chewy taro balls.Â
As a huge fan of black sesame desserts, I found that their shaved ice had the right amount of nutty, sweet, and earthy. I also liked that it wasn’t milky, which I thought may hinder the natural taste of black sesame when overdone. For those who want something more refreshing, opt for the Taiwanese Watermelon Shaved Ice (RM15+/~S$4.30) instead.

Besides their Mount Austin outlet, there are other branches located in Kluang, Taman Sutera Utama and more. All of their stores are open till at least 10pm, which makes for a great supper spot for your friends and family.
