This limited-time bread combines matcha, or green tea, with azuki red beans—a popular pairing seen in Japanese desserts.

The new matcha loaf features the familiar soft, fluffy texture that Gardenia breads are known for. The matcha flavour is said to come through gradually, leaving an earthy and grassy aftertaste that balances the sweetness of the azuki beans.

According to a post on the Singapore Heritage Food FB Group submitted by member Wensheng Lai, the bread tastes good on its own, though it also pairs well with spreads such as condensed milk or peanut butter. He added that the matcha flavour “kicks in quite late and lingers,” while the red bean gives a mild sweetness that lightens the overall flavour.

Each slice of the Matcha Azuki Loaf contains small pockets of red bean, offering a gentle contrast to the subtle bitterness of the green tea. It’s light enough for a breakfast option or a teatime snack.

As with many of Gardenia’s other flavoured loaves, the Matcha Azuki Loaf is available at major supermarkets and convenience stores island-wide, stocked alongside other Gardenia breads. We’re not sure how long the new flavour will be available for, so it’s worth picking up a loaf if you spot it at your nearest FairPrice or Cold Storage.
