In this economy, a luxurious omakase experience wouldn’t just empty my pockets, but also send me straight into generational debt. That’s why I was glad to stumble upon Haku Sushi’s new Rolling Omakase Lunch, where prices start from as low as $19++!
To mark their third anniversary, the popular sushi restaurant will be offering this affordable omakase as part of their permanent lunch menu. The $19++ deal comes with five courses. Thereafter, if you’d like more food, you’re free to order extra rounds of fresh sushi at discounted prices.
The more you eat, the more you save, as a rolling discount is applied to each round of omakase. The first round starts with a 50% discount, followed by an additional 5% off with every subsequent round. This comes to just $19++, $18++, and $17++ for the first, second, and third rounds, respectively. Do note that prices are capped at $17++ after the third round.
While prices are relatively low, the experience feels anything but. You’ll be well taken care of by Chef Yamamoto Yoshiki, who brings over 35 years of culinary experience from several prestigious restaurants around the globe, including the Michelin-starred Sushi Ginza Onodera.
Everything here is carefully handcrafted by Chef Yoshiki, using fresh, premium ingredients, air-flown from Japan.
Each round of omakase comes with a specially curated selection of sushi, including at least one seasonal highlight such as uni, chuturo, ebi, and Hokkaido scallops. This means you can look forward to something different with every order!
When we visited, we were served the Chuturo Nigiri for our first course, featuring a thick slice of fatty tuna over hand-pressed vinegared rice, made using a secret blend of red vinegar, red wine, and spices.
Up next was the Hako, starring sweet-savoury unagi and snappy, plump shrimp over Japanese rice, all wrapped in nori and garnished with a mini block of cheese for an added creaminess.
We also enjoyed the Ika Sushi, pairing soft, slightly gelatinous squid with a dollop of wasabi and fluffy rice, finished with a whimsical scatter of colourful sesame seeds.
At the end of each round, you’ll also be served a warm, comforting bowl of seasonal Miso Soup plus a serving of Atsuyaki Tamagoyaki: soft, fluffy slabs of sweet rolled omelette.
If that’s not enough, upgrade your meal with one of their premium items. As part of the promotion, each piece is priced at just $9.90++, which is half off the original price!
One of these premium items is the kura Kobore ($9.90++): an overflowing bowl of fresh salmon roe, served atop a bed of fluffy vinegared rice.
As seats are limited, we recommend making a reservation on their booking website before heading down. Do note that their Rolling Omakase Lunch is only available during lunch hours, from 11:30am to 3pm.
Haku Sushi is located in the basement of Great World, a quick six-minute walk from Great World MRT Station.
