The Nasi Briyani Ayam Tandoori (RM13) is served with curry, two large pieces of crispy papadum, tender chicken tandoori, fragrant rice, and a side of vegetables. To wash down the grease, get a cup of classics such as Milo (RM2.60) and Teh (RM1.80) as well.

2. Jiah Xiang Dim Sum

Jiah Xiang Dim Sum has five branches in JB, including an outlet that’s a 10-minute drive from KSL City Mall. The prices here are pretty affordable too, with most items under RM9+. The classic Shrimp Dumplings (RM7.80+) feature plump shrimps stuffed in a thin dumpling skin. A must-try here is the Kataifi Mango Shrimp (RM8.50+), which sees thin, noodle-like strips of filo pastry encasing sweet mango cubes and bouncy prawns. Since the dim sum eatery gets pretty crowded during peak hours, we recommend heading down earlier to secure a spot!

Hidden behind a huge blue door is The Blue Door Coffee House in Mount Austin, where you’ll find a good selection of matcha drinks and desserts. The cafe opens till 12am on weekends, making it a go-to spot for night owls! Speaking of matcha, we really enjoyed the Matcha ah Yuzu (RM20), a concoction of Niko Neko matcha and sweet-tangy yuzu compote topped with a biscuit. If matcha isn’t your thing, get the Creme Brulee Latte (RM23) or Earl Grey Cham (RM25) instead; the latter is a combination of an espresso shot, fresh milk, and Earl Grey tea finished with velvety smooth Earl Grey cream. Pair your drinks with the popular Pisatchio Cookies Mochi Croissant (RM18), where flaky pastry layers are combined with chewy mochi and rich pistachio cream.

11. Brooos & Co

For those looking for a cafe to get some work done or enjoy me time, consider Brooks & Co. Located just a 15-minute drive from the customs, the cafe features a cool office-themed cafe interior with plugs. Food-wise, we tried their JWC Tacos (RM50++), which comprises tacos in three different flavours: Smoked Duck, Smoked Salmon and Pulled Chicken. The former was our favourite, as the duck was meaty and the taco was loaded with guacamole. They also have Marukyu Koyamaen’s Isuzu Uji Matcha (RM20++) and Piease Chill (RM18), which is essentially a pistachio latte.
