If the spread in the above image is enticing to you, know that at Kakurega (The Lair), you’ll get to double or even triple that. Tucked away in Chinatown, the Japanese yakitori and sake bar is now offering an Oyster and Mini Don Buffet for $69+ per person!

These jumbo oysters are no joke. Measured to be about seven to ten centimetres in length, and weighing more than 110 grams, you can expect each oyster to be gloriously plump, smooth, and fresh.

You can order your oysters either fresh or topped with torched aburi cheese. I would recommend ordering a good mix of both, as the more savoury cheese version helps to prevent the brininess of the fresh oysters from getting too jelak.

The free-flow don, meanwhile, will add some heartiness to your oyster feast. There are 10 types of Japanese rice bowls you can order here, and each come in small portions—an average adult can eat about five before they start to feel full.

Of the ones we tried, the Wagyu Karubi Don was a clear standout—the succulent and well-seared beef cubes that were laid atop the fluffy rice made this dish a joy to eat. Other bowls worth checking out include the Salmon Mentaiko Don and Tori Kaarage Don.

Do note that if you aren’t a fan of oysters, you can still get the Mini Don Buffet (price TBD). The rice bowls in this package are the same 10 options that you’ll get with the pricier Oyster and Mini Don Buffet.
