If you’re an avid #foodtoker on TikTok, you might have come across Keijometo, a TikTok-famous cafe in Johor Bahru known for its raw industrial vibes. Since launching in March 2022, the hip cafe has become increasingly popular across social media, so we knew we had to check it out while we were there!

This unique cafe boasts a fully concrete exterior, which follows through inside with its consistently minimal furnishings: think concrete walls, tables, and seats. The cafe space has a rough and unfinished look, complete with elements that add to the hipster, art gallery vibes.

Vibes aside, their Japanese-inspired menus are worth checking out, too. They specialise in matcha, so we tried their signature Watermelon Matcha Latte (RM15++/~S$4.30++), a creamy blend of premium matcha powder with fresh milk and watermelon juice. If you need your caffeine fix, order the refreshing Tonic Espresso (RM14++/~S$4.10++) instead.

Food-wise, start with the Mentaiko Tamagoyaki Sando (RM20++/~S$5.80++), a trendy stacked sandwich fit for the ‘gram. This snack features crumb-coated egg patties in between thick white toast, slathered with creamy mentaiko sauce, and flame-torched for a charred flavour.

For something more substantial, you won’t go wrong with the Salmon Ochazuke (RM30++/~S$8.60++). This Japanese classic came highly recommended by our waiter, and we spotted it on almost every table during our visit!

You get a generous slab of perfectly grilled salmon dusted with seaweed powder and sea salt flakes, next to soft and sticky short-grain rice. Pour the matcha-based broth all over and enjoy this hearty and comforting dish.

A word of advice: Keijometo gets really packed during meal times, so do expect to wait for a table especially if you’re visiting on a weekend. Otherwise, we recommend dropping by at an off-peak time instead. Unfortunately, the cafe only accepts walk-ins at the moment.
