Keming Bing Sat is opening in SG with famous Hong Kong food

Keming-Bing-Sat-Flatlay

As far as cha chaan teng goes, Keming Bing Sat is a major name. The franchise has 140 eateries across Hong Kong and mainland China, most of which draw perennial long queues. Opened in 2019, it has won multiple awards since, such as the prestigious TikTok’s Favourite Restaurant 2021 award. If that’s not impressive enough, the chain also sold a whopping 3.3 million bowls of their bestselling char siew rice in just a year!

Come 22 May 2025, Singapore will be its latest stop, with the outlet opening in the highly accessible Plaza Singapura. We were the lucky few who visited before their grand opening to see what the hype is all about.

At Keming Bing Sat, you can expect a wide range of classic cha chaan teng fare, spiced up with a few surprises. The highlight is undoubtedly the Char Siew Rice ($10.90++), featuring caramelised char siew, sunny-side-up eggs, and Wuchang rice. This dish was dubbed the “No. 1 Best-Selling Char Siew Rice in China”, which is testament to its popularity. Given that it’s an award-winning dish, we were impressed by its relatively affordable price.

Each bowl is served with seven pieces of thick-cut char siew, two sunny-side-up eggs, and two pieces of kai lan over a bed of rice.

At first blush, the dish looked a tad underwhelming, maybe because we were expecting something more. But it only took one bite to know that we were too quick to judge. The meat served was tender and carried a good amount of melt-in-your-mouth fat. Taste-wise, the cut of meat wasn’t too sweet and sported just the right amount of char.

Our only gripe was that the soy sauce drizzled atop the rice could have been a tad more generous.

Keming-Bing-Sat-Scallion-Oil-Chicken-Chop

The Scallion Oil Chicken Chop rice on Hot Plate ($13.90++) was an equally delicious alternative to the Char Siew Rice. The dish features a thick piece of grilled chicken fillet topped with chopped spring onions and doused in scallion oil, accompanied by a sunny-side-up egg, rice, and some fresh purple lettuce. Overall, the food tasted as amazing as it looked, but it would have tasted better if there were an accompanying sauce to dip the chicken in for extra flavour.

Texture-wise, the chicken was meaty, tender, and boasted a light brown crisp on the outside. We liked the scallion oil-soaked spring onions served atop the meat too, as it helped to zhng up each bite with a subtle oniony aroma. The caramelised chopped onions on the rice were just as good, though we wished there were more for a sweeter finishing touch.

Keming-Bing-Sat-Signature-Snack-Platter

Pair your mains with the Signature Snack Platter ($8.80++), comprising a mix of curry fishball, chee cheong fun doused in savoury peanut sauce, chicken wing tips, and ngoh hiang covered in Thai sweet chilli sauce. Special mention to the latter for its addictive crispy exterior and soft interior.

Alternatively, the Happiness Lava Egg Waffles ($6.90++ for four) stars an IG-worthy egg-shaped waffle with savoury cheese filling.

The pancakes were light and fluffy within, and we appreciated that the cheese wasn’t too overwhelming, as it could have resulted in a mess. This is a good choice for those looking for a light bite.

Keming-Bing-Sat-Lava-Ovaltine-Toast-Establishment

Here’s one for those with a sweet tooth: the Lava Ovaltine Toast ($7.90++). This is essentially a fluffy, thick toast packed with sweet milk and topped with a sprinkle of Ovaltine powder and crunchy Oreo crumbs.

Cut open your toast, and the milk immediately oozes onto your plate. Pro tip: Pair the side of your toast with the sweet milk and crunchy Oreo crumbs for the best of both soft and crunchy textures. The sweet milk was relatively light and wasn’t cloying even towards the end.

Finally, wash down all the grease with their Ice Bear Drink Series.

Keming-Bing-Sat-Hong-Kong-Milk-Tea

Milk tea fans, go straight for the Little Bear Iced Hong Kong Milk Tea ($4.90++), where milk tea is served with an adorable bear-shaped ice cube.

The tea is freshly brewed in a high pour and low draw method, creating a velvety smooth texture while retaining the tea’s fragrance. Similar to the milk tea you find on the streets of Hong Kong, the drink was pretty thick in consistency, so you may want to wait for some ice to melt if you prefer a less creamy mouthfeel.

Don’t leave without trying their viral Little Bear Iced Lemon Tea ($4.90++), where fragrant Ceylon black tea leaves are brewed and pulled repeatedly to intensify the aroma. We also appreciated that Keming Bing Sat’s version was less sweet than most iced lemon tea you’ll find elsewhere.

Other refreshing options to beat the heat include the Pink Bear Soda ($5.90++), which boasts a sweet guava flavour, or the Dreamy Blue Bear Soda ($5.90++)
