Komoco Motors Cafeteria is a hidden staff canteen in Queenstown
After feeling the pinch of today’s ever-rising prices, it’s safe to say that our bank accounts have officially entered a minimalist era. To stretch our dollars, my foodie friends and I have made it our mission to sniff out the best wallet-friendly eateries around the island. Our latest find was Komoco Motors Cafeteria, a hidden staff canteen in Queenstown. Located on the third floor of a car showroom, they’ve got everything from cai png and nasi padang and old-school Western fare.

When we arrived, our attention turned to the roars of a Ferrari entering the showroom’s garage. Following the car in, we spotted a signboard at the lobby directing us to the cafeteria on the third floor.
The canteen boasted a spacious dining area, large enough to seat over 100 diners.
While they’re open to the public, security is strict about loitering and taking photos, so we recommend heading directly to the canteen, that is, unless you’re also there for a new car.
There are only two stalls inside, but fret not, as they offer a wide range of dishes to choose from.
Of the two, the cai png stall is the most popular, offering ingredients such as Mapo Tofu ($2), Prawn Paste Chicken ($1), and Steamed Minced Meat ($2).
We enjoyed the Mapo Tofu, featuring large chunks of silky smooth tofu cooked in a mildly spicy sauce, topped with shredded crab sticks and minced pork.
The Prawn Paste Chicken was cooked to perfection: lightly crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside.
There are also several daily specials on the menu to look forward to. When we visited, they had five options, including Sesame Oil Chicken Rice ($5), La Mian ($5), and Grilled Chicken Chop ($6). As recommended by the staff, we went with the latter, which came with a chicken chop, baked beans, crisp crinkle-cut fries, and fresh tomato and cucumber slices.
We were wowed by the thick chicken chop, slathered with a sweet-savoury brown sauce, and finished with a hint of smokiness from the grill.
For Muslim-friendly eats, head to the nasi padang stall.
A crowd favourite here is the Assam Fish Curry ($4/$6).
The curry came with okra, chillies, and chunks of soft, flaky fish, all submerged in a spicy-tangy sauce.
Pro–tip: Add a fried egg ($0.70) to elevate the dish with a touch of creaminess from the yolk!
Don’t miss out on the Sambal Goreng ($1), featuring long beans, tofu, tempeh, and a mix of red and green chillies, all stir-fried in a spicy sambal sauce.
Komoco Motors Cafeteria is located along Alexandra Road, a four-minute bus ride or 12-minute walk from Redhill MRT Station.
