31st October 2025

Kopitiam @ Mapletree Business City has an AI assistant

As far as food courts go, Kopitiam @ Mapletree Business City is certainly unique. Not merely for its interior design, which looks straight out of a sci-fi film, but also for its use of AI. We can already hear the groans: AI again? What isn’t AI these days? Who knows, maybe this article was written by AI. But we digress.

At the entrance is a screen inhabited by the artificial intelligence entity known as Kimberly. A polyglot capable of speaking anything from Chinese to French, Kimberly guides diners through the many stalls in the food court. It can even offer recommendations based on your cravings, which, come to think of it, should be our work. Stop stealing jobs, AI!

You’re advised to speak with Kimberly with patience, however, as she often mishears what you are saying, and gets painfully repetitive with her suggestions at times. But she’s new to the job, so let’s cut her some slack.

The food court also employs AI-powered video analytics, which is said to monitor crowd density and trigger staff deployment as needed. On the aforementioned screen, this shows up as a heat map, allowing you to strategically search for the best available seats.

Other high-tech features include UV-sterilised cutlery trays and automatic handwashing stations. There are a few of these throughout the food court, which we found to be a nice touch.

As for food, Kopitiam @ Mapletree Business City has a decent range of options. At the stall Cu Liang Yu Fen, you can enjoy dishes such as the Sauerkraut Sliced Fish Soup (from $9.80) AKA suan cai yu, the popular spicy-sour dish from Sichuan, China.

Fans of Vietnamese food should check out Pho King, where you can get the likes of Special Beef Pho ($9.90)Fresh Spring Roll ($5.90), and Grilled Sliced Pork Banh Mi ($8.90).

You can also get all the local staples here, including Chicken Rice ($5.80and Kaya Toast Set ($3.50). But don’t expect to be blown away by the food options. At its core, it’s just another Kopitiam outlet with a few quirks—whether the AI angle is interesting enough to justify a visit is up to you.
