Kumachan Onsen Shabu Shabu & Yakiniku opens in Somerset

Fresh off the press: Kumachan Onsen Shabu Shabu & Yakiniku has arrived in Singapore, at Orchard Central! The popular restaurant, which hails from Hokkaido, Japan, is most famous for their adorable teddy bear hotpot.

Start by choosing your Hot Spring flavour: Soymilk Soup, Japanese Miso Soup, Gochujang Soup, Chicken Mapo Soup, Bonito Soup, and Collagen Soup. The first two are white bears, the next two are red, and the last two are brown.

Then, pick your main ingredient, with options such as Chicken ($15.80++), Double Beef Karubi ($21.80++), and Premium Beef Karubi ($23.80++). Each set comes with an individual hotpot, a side of veggies, and your choice of protein. There’s also the option of topping up $2++ for steamed chicken dumplings or noodles.

Each set includes a frozen kuma-chan, or bear, in an “onsen”. Once hot water is added to your hotpot, the bear melts into a rich collagen broth.

Besides mini hotpot, the restaurant offers yakiniku sets, too. For a good variety of meats, order the Shokudo Set ($21.90++/$25.90++), which includes a trio of beef karubi, beef tongue, and beef steak. These sets come with a bowl of rice, a side of kimchi, a bowl of soup, and unlimited sauces for dipping.

There’s also a premium Wagyu Beef Rump Set ($26.90++) if you don’t mind spending a little more. Alternatively, load up on the protein by topping up $2++ to upgrade your plain rice to Beef Curry Rice!

The new restaurant sits on Level 7 of Orchard Central, which is directly connected to Somerset MRT Station.
