Mei Hua Garden FishBall Noodle has $3 mee pok in Jalan Batu
Fishball noodles, or minced meat noodles AKA bak chor mee, are a perennial favourite among Singaporeans. If you’re on a budget, one particular stall that’s worth checking out is Mei Hua Garden Fishball Noodle, which sells cheap fishball noodles priced at just $3.
Run by an elderly couple—Aunty takes your order while Uncle cooks—the humble stall in 4A Jalan Batu Hawker Centre is popular among residents for their old-school fishball noodles. Each bowl is priced at just $3 for a regular portion or $4 for a bigger serving.
Noodle options include mee pok, yellow noodles, kway teow, and a lesser-seen lau shu fen, also known as mee tai bak. Choose to have yours dry or in soup;Â the former features springy noodles tossed in an aromatic chilli and vinegar combination, mixed together with crispy shallots. The sauce, while flavourful, leans salty, but I appreciate how the noodles are not overcooked.
You also get a few slices of fish cake and two fishballs, if you opted for the $3 serving.
The nearest train station from Mei Hua Garden Fishball Noodle is Mountbatten MRT Station, which is an 11-minute walk away.

Another must-visit stall in the same Jalan Batu hawker centre is Feng Ji Kway Chap, which sells $2.50 kway chap sets from 6am daily. Otherwise, venture a little further to Kallang Wave Mall to get thick and floppy waffles with peanut butter at Levure Naturelle!
Address: 4A Jalan Batu, #01-17, Jalan Batu Hawker Centre, Singapore 432004
Opening hours: Fri-Wed, 8am to 1:30pm
