While I usually hide from the scorching sun like a vampire, I was glad to stumble across the newly opened Mr. Sun Tea at *SCAPE. Hailing from Taiwan, the popular bubble tea brand has been around since 1999, serving up unique tea blends, XL pearls, and fluffy egg pancakes.

They offer an extensive menu with nine categories to choose from, including milk tea, fresh milk lattes, fruit blends, and smoothies.

Better yet, they have a unique selection of toppings to liven up your drinks with: think jumbo pearls, fruit-flavoured boba, pudding, basil seeds and more!

As recommended by the staff, we got their signature Jumbo Boba Milk Tea Smoothie ($6.80).

The drink features ice-blended milk tea, finished with a generous drizzle of sweetened cream. You also get two types of house-made boba: bouncy XL grass jelly pearls and chewy tapioca pearls! The jumbo grass jelly pearls brought a smooth, gelatinous texture that complemented the creamy base.

If you love your bubbly, the Mr. Sun Golden Brew ($7.20) is the perfect refreshing drink that pairs green tea with smooth Heineken 0.0 beer.

While the beer is non-alcoholic, it still carries the same malty sweetness you’d expect from a classic pint of Heineken.

The Hawaiian Summer ($6.20) is another popular drink, starring a tropical blend of pineapple, lime, and subtly earthy green tea, made better by a scoop of basil seeds for a delightful silky crunch.

There’s also the Mr. Sun Special ($5.80): a creamy yet light milkshake blended with sweet-tangy strawberry compote.

If you’re feeling peckish, don’t miss out on their adorable light bulb-shaped Egg Pancakes.

The mini pancakes come in eight flavours, including Custard & Brown Sugar Boba ($4 for two) and Creamy Cheese ($3.80 for two).

The Custard & Brown Sugar Boba Pancake had a nice eggy sweetness that paired well with a hint of caramel from the brown sugar pearls.

For something savoury, get the Creamy Cheese Pancake, which comes loaded with a rich and oozy cheese filling.
