Sugar Belly opens at Jewel with matcha on tap and doughnuts
We’re calling it: 2025 will be the year of the matcha on tap trend. Cue Sugar Belly, the latest addition to Jewel Changi, which claims to be Singapore’s first self-serve matcha on tap concept!
Those who frequent food fairs may be familiar with Sugar Belly, which has appeared at Takashimaya Food Fiesta, Artbox 2024 and more.
Founded by Alexan Tang in 2020, the homegrown brand is most famous for their trendy mochi doughnuts.
There are two matcha beverages on tap: Iced Matcha Latte ($6) and Iced Matcha Strawberry ($7).
After placing your order at the cashier, you’ll be given a cup with ice. If you order the strawberry version, house-made strawberry jam will be added to your cup.
To fill it, simply place the cup under the tap. Interestingly, the amount of matcha latte has been automated, so the machine dispenses the perfect amount each time.
Alexan mentions that the team hand-whisks the matcha latte in small batches for optimal freshness. Niko Neko matcha powder, known for its quality, is used here.
We found the matcha latte smooth and creamy, with just the right ratio of milk to matcha. The drink was lightly sweetened, complementing the fragrance and earthiness of the green tea.
If you’re feeling peckish, you can grab a box of their popular mochi doughnuts here, priced at $6 per piece.
The Matcha Strawberry is a popular pick, featuring the brand’s signature doughnut topped with a matcha white chocolate glaze and freeze-dried strawberry bits.
The Sakura Strawberry, which tastes like strawberry-flavoured Pocky sticks in doughnut form, is another IG-worthy option.
Otherwise, if you’re feeling adventurous, consider the Mala Cheese Ham flavour. This savoury treat is topped with mala, fried bacon bits, and cheese.
We appreciated the innovative lineup of flavours, but found the doughnuts a tad too greasy for our liking. For those who enjoy crispy doughnuts, these might be up your alley!
Do take note that Sugar Belly is closed on 20 January. We recommend you check Sugar Belly’s IG page for the latest updates.
