Surrey Hills Grocer opens new outlet in Holland Village with MoVida collab

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village MoVida Tapas

Surrey Hills Grocer is a go-to when you want to soak up some Aussie cafe vibes without hopping on a plane. With their new opening at One Holland Village, Westies can get even closer to the food scene Down Under. They’ve collaborated with famous Melbourne bar and restaurant, MoVida, to bring a series of tapas exclusive to this outlet near Holland Village MRT Station.

One Holland Village Guide: 20 Best Eateries For NY-Famous Ice Cream, Wood-Fired Steak And More

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village Vierira

This includes the prettily plated Vierira ($24++), where a seared scallop and crispy hash brown coin sits on a seashell. The plump scallops are sourced from Shark Bay, situated at the westernmost edge of Australia.

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village Pincho

Meat lovers, look no further than the Pincho ($22++), featuring hunks of Wagyu rib fingers charcoal-grilled on a skewer. The smoky charred exterior and medium-rare insides were a perfect pairing. Each bite was incredibly soft and tender, and I eagerly mopped up every drop of the sweet and luscious sherry-infused cipollini onion sauce.

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village Tartaleta

Vegetarians aren’t left out of the tapas fun. Even as a carnivore through and through, I deeply enjoyed the Tartaleta ($14++), where a mixture of peas, mint, baby leeks, and stracciatella cheese sit in a paper-thin pastry tart.

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village Truffle Wagyu Donut

Besides the MoVida collab specials, Surrey Hills Grocer also has a series of signature dishes exclusive to their One Holland Village outlet. For a twist on classic beef burgers, give their Truffled Wagyu Donut ($35++) a go, served with crispy fries and a truffle cheese dip.

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village Wagyu Burger Patty

A succulent Wagyu patty is sandwiched between two doughnut halves in place of burger buns, taking indulgence to another level. What I particularly enjoyed was the relish consisting of bell peppers and caramelised onions. They provided a nice contrast in texture, and a welcome vinegary tang to cut through the meatiness and slight greasiness of the doughnut “buns”.

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village Creamy Nori Udon

Continuing on the theme of elevating Western classics, their Creamy Nori Udon ($32++) is like carbonara but with fatter and chewier noods. The miso cream base with parmigiano reggiano is made even richer when you burst the onsen egg and mix all that glorious yolk in.

There’s also a dollop of mentaiko to provide additional pops of savouriness. What ties it all together is the inclusion of Kyushu seaweed, which gave the cream sauce plenty of depth and lessened the jelak-ness.

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village Yuzu Sparkling Coffee Avocado Coconut Coffee

Surrey Hills Grocer at One Holland Village also has outlet-exclusive drinks. Fans of avocado shakes who also need a caffeine pick-me-up can get the best of both worlds with the Avo Coconut Coffee ($9.50++). Oat milk and espresso are mixed with gula melaka syrup, coconut cream, and avocado mash containing actual chunks of the buttery fruit to nibble on.

If you’re craving something less decadent, the Yuzu Sparkling Coffee ($8.50++) is a crisp and refreshing choice. Double espresso is combined with gold citron tea, tangy orange juice, Fuji red apple bits, and sparkling water. As a fan of orange juice espresso drinks, I found this delicate citrus blend to be very complementary to the bitterness of the black coffee.

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village Churro Stack

Cap off your meal with signature desserts from this branch, like the Churros Stack ($16++). Crunchy and doughy churros tinged black with charcoal and dusted with cinnamon sugar are accompanied by an almond crumble, vanilla ice cream, and dark choc sauce to drizzle over.

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village Pavlova

Those who have a taste for sour treats, the Pavlova ($22++) will be right up your alley. The meringue dome holds vanilla chantilly cream and passionfruit sorbet within, crowned by an assortment of fresh seasonal fruits and tart berry coulis.

Surrey Hills Grocer Holland Village Ice Cream Truck

For a dessert you can enjoy on the go, grab a scoop of gelato ($7++) or two from the Surrey Hills Creamery ice cream truck. Besides being a great photo spot, the custom-built truck also houses gelato in flavours like Lemon Curd, Port Arthur Lavender and White Chocolate, and Salted Honeycomb and Hazelnut Praline.

One Holland Village is Surrey Hill Grocer’s second pet-friendly outlet after Surrey Hills Grocer at Woodleigh Mall, which features a menu in collaboration with Melbourne’s famous Pancake Parlour.
