Just when we thought Takagi Ramen couldn’t come up with anything worse than cockles milk tea, they’ve proven us wrong with yet another wild creation. The popular ramen chain has just launched an all-new Japanese-fusion prawn noodle dish, topped with actual edible mealworms!
And before you go into a frenzy—yes, mealworms are part of the 16 species of insects that have been approved by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) for consumption. They’re also said to be a great source of protein!
At Takagi Ramen, the mealworms are a free topping if you order their prawn noodles. They’re deep-fried till crunchy, adding a unique texture to the dish.
On to the new noodles: Takagi Ramen has rolled out two new prawn noodle dishes, the Fiery Dry Prawn Noodle ($10.90) and Mysterious Prawn Noodle Soup ($10.90). The Japanese-Singaporean dish features prawn heads that are simmered for four hours, then mixed with Takagi’s signature tonkotsu broth. Each serving comes with jumbo prawns, springy ramen noodles, and a house-made spicy sauce that’s packed with umami.
Both items are also available as a set meal with one of their new drinks at $12.90. For your beverage, you get to choose between the Divine Soursop Potion (U.P. $3.90) and Enchanted Fruit Talisman (U.P. $3.90)—an ice-blended fruity concoction.
We’re not sure how long this menu will run for, so make sure you head down to any of Takagi Ramen’s 13 outlets to try the unique mealworm ramen!
