ICYMI: The Coach Bar is now in Singapore, taking over the previous space of the world’s first Coach Cafe. The New York-inspired bar is located on the ground floor of Coach Play Singapore Shophouse, in a Chinatown shophouse along Keong Saik Road.

The space is cosy and intimate, with a touch of vintage charm—the bar counter sees a curated display of old-school cassette tapes, backed by a discerning playlist featuring 70s soul and 90s hip hop.

Food-wise, you can expect elevated American bar staples perfect for sharing at the table, best enjoyed with a tipple or two.

You can start with the Shrimp Cocktail ($22++), served chilled with a house-made tangy sauce for dipping. The prawns were plump and sweet, though we found the pricetag a tad too steep for five pieces.

The Pastrami Poppers ($16++) fared better. These bite-sized balls comprised pastrami-filled arancini AKA Italian rice balls, gruyere and mozzarella cheese, topped with Everything Bagel seasoning—an iconic seasoning mix that rose to fame in New York.

You can also order a side of Bar Chips ($3++) with pecorino and cracked black pepper to munch on while imbibing.

Speaking of drinking, Martinis go for just $12++ a pop, all night long. Each martini is customised to your liking, with garnishes including bitters, pickled onion, and blue cheese-stuffed olives. Alternatively, speak to the bartender who’ll recommend toppings based on your taste preferences.

My martini was smooth and slightly smoky, with a briny finish from the olive.

I enjoyed the Grey Goose Espresso Martini ($25++) just as much. This dessert-like cocktail, consisting of Grey Goose vodka, Mr Black Coffee Amaro, cherry, and whipped smoked white chocolate, was sweet but not overly so. The smoked white chocolate cream layer on top added a lovely richness to the heady coffee-and-vodka concoction.

If you’re in the mood for something lighter, I recommend the refreshing Tabby Disco Tea ($22++): tarragon-infused Grey Goose vodka, house-made lemonade, and rooibos tea, topped with “Coach C” citrus ice cubes.

Pad your stomach with more American diner-style food, such as the quintessential Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($23++).

Here, the toasties are packed with American cheddar, gruyere, and extra sharp cheddar, accompanied with piping-hot tomato soup on the side. The sharpness of the Dijon mustard and sweetness of the caramelised onions added a rich complexity to the cheesy sandwich, while the tangy tomato soup served as an ideal dipping sauce.

For something meatier, get The Coach Steak Sandwich ($25++), where tender grilled USDA prime steak, mild cheddar, peppers, and horseradish and packed in a house-made potato roll and served with curly fries.

Alternatively, the Silver Service Hot Dog ($30++) is an excellent snack to share. You get a thick Wagyu beef hot dog loaded with sweet pickle relish and Dijon, stuffed between a buttery potato roll.
