13th September 2024

The Glam Circuit Festival 2024 food guide

In light of the upcoming Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, there’s an exciting new food festival to check out along the streets of One Kampong Gelam: The Glam Circuit Festival 2024. There are about 30 food booths, so we’ve shortlisted the 10 kiosks to visit from 13 to 22 September.

1. Brewmen’s Signature

Brewmen’s Signature specialises in drinks and kunafa, and there’s definitely something for everyone here as their menu is extensive. FYI, there was already a queue forming during our visit in the evening, so please extend some patience while waiting for your goods.

To beat the heat, we got a cup of their Strawberry Matcha ($7); a TikTok-viral drink that gained traction over the last few months. The milky and mildly earthy flavours complemented the strawberry puree, and you’ll surely enjoy this if you prefer your matcha sweeter and less bitter. We also got the Pistachio Kunafa ($13) to go with our drink: this one features kunafa drenched in a slightly dense pistachio sauce, and topped with chopped nuts as the finishing touch. Just a word of caution—we encourage you to share this with your friends as it’s a heaty dessert to finish on your own.

2. Roti John LehLeh

We wanted something more filling at this point, so we headed to Roti John LehLeh for their huge Roti Johns in three different flavours: Original ($11), Korean Chicken ($12), and Red Rendang Chicken ($12).

Unsure of what to get, we stuck with the Original for sliced halves of a thick loaf fried with egg, minced mutton, and finely sliced onions. The best part, though, was the variety of sauces that covered the bread entirely: you get a three-in-one of ketchup, chilli sauce, and mayonnaise! Here’s a tip: if you’d like to try different flavours, there’s the option of getting two for $20.

3. Happiness In A Box

At Happiness In A Box, you—quite literally—get happiness in a box of sushi bakes or cheese coin waffles.

Our attention was immediately drawn to their vibrant Rainbow Cheese Coin Waffles ($6), so we got one to see if it tasted as good as it looked. There was a good balance of sweet and savoury flavours without overpowering the other, and it was served hot with a long, stretchy mozzarella cheese within. Also, there’s a good range of sushi bakes from $10 if you want something that fills you up on the go.

4. Noi Kassim

Here’s one for seafood fans: Noi Kassim has freshly grilled prawn, sotong, and stingray. Here, you can choose from sambal, salted egg, and cereal—whatever tickles your fancy.

As huge fans of BBQ stingray, we had to get the BBQ Stingray Set ($12) consisting of a side of rice, a sunny-side-up, and of course, a sambal stingray. The sweet-spicy sambal chilli paired really well with the tender meat, and we appreciated that there was a side of chinchalok sauce to give it a tangy punch. If you’re not feeling peckish, go for the Ala Carte Sambal Stingray ($10) instead!

5. Meat My Meat

Meat My Meat is another familiar face we previously met at Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2024 and Kampong Gelam Bazaar. They’re back with their extensive range of fuss-free hotdogs and meat-loaded fries.

We recommend their Mozza Cheesesteak Fries ($11.90) for a winning combination of thin-cut fries generously topped with grilled beef, nacho cheese, and melted mozzarella cheese. To go with this, opt for their hotdogs in eight different flavours: Buffalo Cheesesteak Hotdog ($11.90), Mozza Chicken Cheesesteak ($10.90) and more.

6. Detako

Sushi bakes have become indispensable to food fairs in Singapore, so Detako came through with their steady sellers, which we think include lesser-seen flavours that can’t be found elsewhere.

For those ready to splurge, go straight for the popular Chuka Idako ($15) and Scallop Mentaiko ($15). The latter is on the pricier end, but it comes loaded with creamy mentaiko sauce, making every dough worth spending. FYI, every sushi bake is served with a packet of Korean seaweed for the best experience.

7. KREAM SG

KREAM SG is one of the popular booths here with more than 15K followers on their Instagram. Their hotdogs are great for a mess-free eating experience amid a busy food festival, and what’s more, they’ve got some interesting flavours too.

For a lovely twist to your regular hotdogs, get the Flaming Cheese Rendang ($8) that’s said to be oh-so delicious. This crowd-favourite features sweet-spicy rendang topped with charred cheese! Else, there’s the Swedish Meatballs ($10) if you want something more familiar and comforting.

8. BA-BALANG

It’d be remiss of us not to mention the massive bucket-sized drinks at this food festival—cue BALANG.SG, with more than 10 flavours to choose from. These are our go-to thirst quenchers at any outdoor food festival, especially given how hot and humid it can be in Singapore.

Out of the lot, their Mojito Apple and Mojito Lime tend to sell out relatively fast, so be sure to grab them fast if you’d like to try their bestseller. During our visit, we tried the Honeydew, which came with a generous scoop of nata de coco.

9. SUMEGO

the-glam-circuit-festival-2024-sumego

Newly opened SUMEGO is the stall for legit burgers. There are only four flavours to choose from, but every burger is packed with all kinds of yummy ingredients, and you’ll surely leave the food fair full and content.

We saw several customers getting the signature Sumego ($12.50), starring mesclun mix, beef patty, signature bone marrow sauce, and fried shallots sandwiched between toasted brioche. If you, like me, love a good chimichurri in anything, their Chimmy ($11.50) is a safe bet: this one comes with the same ingredients but with house-made brown sauce and chimichurri instead. There are also add-on options, including sauteed mushrooms ($1.50), turkey bacon ($1.50), and cheese slice ($1).

10. Deram Pop

For the finale, we have Deram Pop, where you get mini kuih keria AKA sweet potato doughnuts. From moulding and shaping to frying and serving, everything is done from scratch right in front of you here.

Their mini kuih keria is named Big Bite ($6), and small it may be, but every bite is chewy and strangely addictive. You can add drizzles such as Biscoff, Thai Milk Tea or Thai Matcha ($1 each) for an extra bit of sweetness.
