Tofu G has Korean tofu gelato at Mandarin Gallery
If you’re a gelato fan, you’ll want to check out this new pop-up at Mandarin Gallery. Korean brand Tofu G has set up shop, serving their premium tofu gelato in six different flavours, with each scoop priced at $8.

As you might expect from the name, the gelato here is tofu-based, giving all their treats the unmistakable taste of soybeans. The treat is said to be inspired by the traditional technique of grinding soybeans with a millstone. While the gelato is not dairy-free, it’s lighter and lower in fat than regular ice cream, so you can indulge wth less guilt.
This emphasis on tradition is apparent in the space itself, which sports rustic wood decor and Korean-inspired furnishings.
For a treat that’s most reminiscent of tofu, get the Original Tofu. This treat has all the dense, creamy goodness of classic gelato, but with the slight earthy and nutty notes of soybeans. There’s also an alternate version of this flavour called the High-protein Tofu, which uses non-GMO soybeans.
For a richer alternative, opt for the Black Sesame or Sweet Potato. Both flavours were noticeably richer than the Original Tofu, and also more fragrant and nutty. If you like the sweet, buttery goodness of corn, the Sweet Corn flavour would be right up your alley.
But of course, it’s not a gelato place without a Pistachio option. The signature nuttiness of pistachio is present here, but is blended with soybeans to create a unique flavour profile.
Aside from gelato, Tofu G also offers a soft serve version of their tofu gelato, titled Soft Tofu ($7). While we did not try it, the Soft Tofu likely offers the same creamy soybean flavour in a lighter, soft serve form.
