Uma Haus has cheap Japanese food at Chinatown Complex
Everyone knows Japanese fare isn’t the cheapest in Singapore, so much so that we even have a curated guide to cheap Japanese food under $15++. One eatery that hasn’t made the list, because it’s new, is Uma Haus in Chinatown. Everything on the menu is priced under $10!

Uma Haus specialises in ramen, with six soup dishes and a dry option on the menu. The latter, Abura Dry Ramen, is the cheapest item, priced at just $3.90.Â
The abura noodles were sinfully drenched in a smoky oil, and topped with minced pork, spring onion, and shallots. While we thought that the noodles were really dry, they were delightfully flavourful, and for $3.90, this was absolutely worth it.Â
If you prefer your noodles in a warm, comforting broth, go for the Signature Tonkotsu Ramen ($6.90), where you can choose from four tonkotsu soup bases: Original, Spicy, Black Garlic Oil, and Prawn Oil.
This bowl comes with springy noodles, half a runny ajitama egg, and three slices of aburi pork belly. We thought that the tonkotsu soup was rather light, and would have appreciated a stronger depth of flavour.Â
However, the accompanying pork belly slices were torch-grilled well, and we found their smoky, fatty quality extremely satisfying.Â
Ramen aside, there are four rice bowls featuring different proteins for those who prefer rice to noodles. The Salmon Mentaiko Bowl ($9.90) was topped with a sizeable grilled salmon fillet, and lathered with a thick aburi mentaiko mayo.Â
The mentaiko sauce had a creamy texture with a deep smoky richness from the aburi. While the rice was a tad dry, the accompanying ajitama egg and the savoury mentaiko helped to alleviate that.Â
A good way to substantiate your meal is to add on a side. Choose from six different kinds, with prices ranging from $1.50 to $4.90—Ajitama is the cheapest, while Scallop Mentai and Black Tiger Prawn Tempura are the priciest ones.
