New Korean Restaurant At UE Square With Himalayan Salt Aging Room, Ssambap And More

Whuchu Korean Dining Restaurant opens at UE Square

If you love Korean food as much as we do, you’ll want in on this news. Whuchu Korean Dining Restaurant has landed at UE Square, and it’s not just another K-BBQ joint—this one’s built entirely around ssam, the Korean tradition of wrapping meat, rice, and banchan into one bite. The restaurant offers two concepts: a wellness-focused ssam-bap lunch by day, and a full-on Korean BBQ dinner by night, with a beer garden experience for good measure.

The centrepiece is the Himalayan salt aging room, a cave-like space built into the dining area itself. Instead of tucking the aging process away in a back kitchen, Whuchu puts it on display. It’s one of the first setups of its kind in a Korean restaurant here, serving double duty as both a function and centrepiece.

Jeotgal, AKA fermented salted seafood, is the star on the menu—a rarer flex for most Korean spots in Singapore. The lineup includes salted pollock roe, spicy fermented oysters, and spicy salted squid, meant to be enjoyed in small spoonfuls tucked into your ssam (vegetable) wraps.

The veggies are flown in directly from Korea, including fresh garlic leaves, angelica, red lettuce, perilla leaves, and regular lettuce.

On the meat side, it’s 100% certified Jeju pork, aged in-house through a two-step process: wet aging first for tenderness, then dry aging to build a more concentrated flavour.

For lunch, the Ssam-Bap Set costs $36++ per person, with a minimum of two diners required. You get to choose your main: Soy Garlic Beef Bulgogi, Spicy Pork, Poached Pork Belly, or Spicy Chicken Galbi. Each set arrives with traditional pot rice, beef perilla seed seaweed soup, four types of jeotgal, three side dishes, and a full wrap vegetable spread.

Come evening, the menu shifts into premium Korean BBQ territory. The headline cut is the Aged Bone-In Pork Belly ($78++, 600g), alongside LA Galbi ($68++, 350g), marinated in a sweet soy blend. Other highlights include Aged Pork Collar ($58++, 300g), Marinated Pork Collar ($58++, 300g), Wagyu Beef Brisket ($28++, 100g), and Wagyu Beef Bulgogi ($58++, 300g). Every BBQ set comes with four side dishes, seasonal wrap vegetables, and ssamjang sauce.

There’s also an a la carte spread worth trying: Tofu & Stir-Fried Kimchi ($18++), made fresh every morning, Crispy Cheese-Stuffed Fish Cake Fritters ($14++) served with a spicy chili mayo dip, and more.

Attached to the restaurant is a small beer garden, an outdoor space with wooden tables, garden plantings, and year-round shade. Bottoms up with a small selection of highballs, makgeolli, and soju, plus Korean-style sharing plates, with arcade games on hand for entertainment.
