You Fu Claypot Delights Review: Famous Hokkien Mee And Sesame Oil Chicken Noodles In Woodlands

You Fu Claypot Delights has famous hokkien prawn mee in Woodlands

Great news for Woodlands residents: You Fu Claypot Delights has just opened in Woodlands Crescent. Known for its delectable fried hokkien mee, the You Fu has expanded from their popular stall at Golden Mile Food Centre to this new outlet in the North.

We visited their OG Golden Mile stall earlier this year and were impressed by the hokkien mee, which was bursting with wok hei and rich, umami flavours from the broth. The new Woodlands branch has been receiving similar praise online, so we decided to check it out and see if it lives up to the original!

Food at You Fu Claypot Delights

We tried the Fried Hokkien Mee ($6/$8), and while it has its merits, there are some potential drawbacks worth noting. The yellow noodles had a pronounced taste that leans towards the alkaline side, which might be a bit overpowering for some. However, the chilli and the wok hei flavour helped balance out the alkaline taste, so that it was not too overwhelming.

Noodles-wise, they were a bit firmer than expected, unlike the usual smooth, slurp-worthy texture you get in some wetter versions of hokkien mee.

Thanks to the combination of the rich seafood broth and a heavy wok hei presence—that might become a bit overwhelming if you eat too much at once—the overall flavour profile was quite intense. Meanwhile, the prawns were decent, well-seasoned but nothing exceptional, and though the noodles were pretty large in terms of portion size, the dish only included two prawns and a few strips of pork belly. On the plus side, the portion size was generous, so you do get a substantial amount of food!

We also tried the Sesame Oil Chicken Set ($5.50), which comes with your choice of carbs. We chose mee tai bak because we felt it would go best with the sesame oil. And we were glad we did, because the mee tai bak was incredibly smooth and flavourful, easy to slurp on and perfect if you are looking for a hearty bowl of noodles.

The chicken was incredibly tender and well-marinated, bursting with flavour and a strong sesame oil infusion. It’s clear that the chicken had absorbed the sesame oil deeply, making it wonderfully satisfying in both taste and texture.

Ambience at You Fu Claypot Delights

You Fu sits in a coffee shop in the Woodlands estate, just a 15-minute walk from Admiralty MRT Station, along with other noteworthy stalls such as Jofa Meepok, a Japanese donburi stall and more. It’s decently spacious and well-ventilated, making it a relatively comfortable place to enjoy your hokkien mee.

The verdict

You Fu Claypot Delights offers some wok hei-filled fried hokkien mee and real good sesame oil chicken at decent prices, so do check the stall out if you are a fan of those dishes!
