1. Oriental Kopi
Oriental Kopi needs no introduction. The popular chain has more than 10 outlets in Malaysia, and they recently opened an outlet in Singapore at Bugis Junction, which marks their first overseas venture. They specialise in Nanyang cuisine with breakfast, lunch, and dinner items aplenty for you to choose from.
Our favourite of the lot was the Oriental Signature Nasi Lemak ($9.50++), featuring a mouth-watering combination of fried chicken, an egg, steamed rice, a dollop of sambal sauce, crispy ikan bilis, fried peanuts, and sliced cucumber. If you love a good traditional breakfast, we recommend the Double Butter Kaya Toast ($2.60++) alongside a cup of their Oriental Kopi (from $1.80++). The toast was crispy and tasted even better when paired with the mildly sweet coconutty Hainanese kaya spread and two slabs of cold butter. You’ll also enjoy their kopi if you appreciate a creamy consistency without the flavours being too intense or “gao”.

2. Tomahawk King Steakhouse & Grill
Tomahawk King Steakhouse & Grill recently went through a makeover, and they are back with a menu that will surely catch your attention: XL Tomahawk steak and Raising Cane’s-inspired chicken!
If you’ve never tried Raising Cane’s and are curious about the hype, get the King’s Chicken 3-Piece Combo ($19++), which is the closest thing you can get to the OG Raising Cane’s combo. The set consists of three buttermilk chicken thigh fillets, two buttered sesame toast, two mozzarella dippers, a side of crinkle-cut fries, a small serving of King’s dipping sauce and ranch, and a soft drink. It’d be remiss of you not to try the restaurant’s bestseller, the Signature Wagyu Tomahawk Steak ($148++). The Australian Wagyu steak weighs 550g, and tastes best when eaten with the garlic herb butter atop the steak, alongside some brown sauce, mushroom cream sauce, and two sunny-side-up eggs.

3. Awfully Chocolate
Awfully Chocolate is not new to us, but their chocolate raclette wheel is. Exclusive to the Wisma Atria outlet, this one-of-a-kind apparatus is said to be the first in Singapore. Head down to town if you’d like to try the melted chocolate made with a secret mix of ingredients, including shea butter and dark chocolate.
There’s a separate menu dedicated to the chocolate raclette wheel, comprising a total of five items. We liked the Pisang Pisang ($15++) best; you get a rich banana cake with some spiced apple filling within and topped with crispy goreng pisang nuggets. For an added crunch, the dessert is finished with toasted walnuts. There’s also the unique Chocolate Muah Chee (15++), which is essentially chocolate warabimochi done muah chee-style.

4. Surrey Hills Grocer VivoCity
New in: Popular Australian-inspired cafe Surrey Hills Grocer has set up shop at VivoCity! The new pet-friendly cafe sports rainforest-themed decor, alongside an expansive menu with all-new pasta dishes, sharing sides and more. We recommend their house-made pizzas to share with your friends; the Pulled Pork Hollandaise ($12++) and Margherita ($10++) flavours are excellent options.
For mains, you won’t go wrong with their fusion “Hokkien Mee” ($26++). You get al dente Malfadine pasta strands tossed in umami-packed prawn bisque and crispy lard, topped with grilled prawns, kale, and ikura. Otherwise, try the Mee Siam Cappelini ($22++), where thin pasta noodles are paired with a piquant mee siam gravy, crown with crispy squid and calamansi. Round up your meal with the signature Sticky Date Pudding ($16++): moist date sponge cake in salted butterscotch sauce, served with almond crumble and vanilla ice cream.
