Cassia Caneles has canele blind boxes
The blind box craze is still going strong, with everything from CHAGEE’s bubble tea plushies to 7-Eleven’s mystery keychains catching our attention! Now, home-based bakery Cassia Caneles has joined the trend with their cute Canele Blind Box ($5.80).
If you haven’t had caneles before, they’re a traditional French pastry with a crisp, caramelised crust and soft, custardy interior. But at Cassia Caneles, the classic treat gets a unique twist.
There are nine flavours you can get from their blind box, namely Salted Caramel, Hot Cocoa, Pandan Kaya, Ispahan, Matcha, Lemon Curd, Ube, Dubai Kunafa, and a special Mystery Flavour.
As they’re a small business, their bakes are only offered in limited quantities through pre-orders. Thankfully, we were lucky enough to have a taste of their elusive artisanal blind box caneles!
One flavour we got was the Salted Caramel, topped with caramel-coated popcorn.
We loved its gooey caramel core, which had the perfect balance of salty and sweet.
We also got the Dubai Kunafa, which had a velvety pistachio filling with bits of crispy shredded phyllo pastry.
Of the lot we tasted, the Ispahan was our favourite!
Its filling boasted fruity, fragrant notes, with a mix of rose, lychee, raspberry, and white chocolate chunks.
The last canele blind box we had housed the Mystery Flavour, which had pieces of colourful cereal and marshmallow placed atop, similar to that of Lucky Charms.
As the details of this flavour are kept secret, we aren’t 100 per cent sure of its ingredients, but we enjoyed its sweet and tart core, reminiscent of strawberry jam.
Apart from their caneles, the online bakery has also launched a new treat: Truffle Cheese Mochi ($22 for 12 pieces).
Boldly flavoured and addictively chewy, they make for the perfect snack if you’re a truffle fan.
