Sunshine Bakeries has Uji matcha buns for a limited time
Looks like the matcha trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Wong Fu Fu will be launching a Mega Milo Matcha-Zilla Latte soon, while Sunshine Bakeries has just introduced a new Uji Matcha Hokkaido Milk Cream Bun for a limited time!
Priced at $1.50 per piece, this limited-edition bun features Sunshine’s signature bread filled with a light matcha cream. To give you an idea of how popular this flavour is, we had to visit four supermarkets before finally finding it at a 7-Eleven outlet near our office in Boon Keng.
On to our review: while the cream is made with premium Uji matcha from Kyoto, we found the flavour milder than expected. Matcha connoisseurs may find it underwhelming if they’re expecting a strong, pronounced matcha taste.

That said, the matcha-infused cream was smooth, light, and fluffy. It wasn’t overly sweet either, making it a great option for breakfast or a snack at any time of the day.
Besides the Uji Matcha flavour, there’s also a new Creme Caramel Hokkaido Milk Cream Bun ($1.50) for you to try. This bun stars a flan-inspired cream filling, spiked with dulce de leche—a thick spread made by caramelising condensed milk.
We preferred the caramel bun to the matcha one; it had a slight savoury note, reminiscent of salted caramel, which added depth of flavour without being overly sweet.
You can find the two new buns at major supermarkets and convenience stores islandwide for a limited time.
