As someone with a sweet tooth, I was glad to discover Partage Patisserie near our office. This cute, cosy cafe along Cavan Road in Lavender offers handmade French pastries and cakes, from petit gateau to pain au chocolat. For some context, the cafe is run by award-winning pastry chef Terence Lin, who won the 2022 Global Pastry Chef Challenge, an international competition organised by Worldchefs.

The cafe specialises in petit gateau, a small, layered French cake with a creamy core.

Each cake can be bought individually at $9, or in sets of two and four for $17 and $32, respectively. As the shop is a small, one-man business, sets are offered in limited quantities, so we recommend pre-ordering them through the online ordering form.

FYI, you can also order these cakes in larger sizes at six inches ($60) and eight inches ($80) through the same form.

A popular item is the Matcha Blossom Petit Gateau, which pairs a crunchy hazelnut base with alternating layers of fluffy vanilla sponge, velvety vanilla cream, and strawberry confit, finished with a generous piping of matcha chantilly, AKA a light whipped cream, and fresh strawberries.

The sweet-tart strawberries paired well with the subtle earthiness of the matcha chantilly.

The Mango Jasmine Petit Gateau is another banger, featuring a delicately crisp sable tart base layered with frangipane, AKA a crumbly almond custard, passionfruit cream, and fragrant jasmine chantilly, before being topped with fresh mango and lime zest.

If you love your coffee, we recommend getting the Coffee Petit Gateau.

Each bite boasted a strong coffee flavour, thanks to the layers of coffee chantilly, coffee frangipane, and coffee praline paste: a crispy caramelised sugar paste.

Of the lot we tasted, the Rocher Petit Gateau was our favourite.

We loved the decadent combination of the chocolate sponge and the silky chocolate mousse and cream, made better with a hint of nuttiness from the crunchy hazelnut base and caramel glaze.

If cakes are not your thing, try their Pain au Chocolat ($4.50) instead, starring a buttery and flaky crust, filled with velvety dark chocolate cream, and then topped with a glistening sugar glaze.

You can also pair your pastries with a cuppa joe.
