Bao Whaan Thai Street Snacks has cheap pancake rolls

Thai food is one of my favourite cuisines of all time, and I’m not just talking about the staples, such as tom yum, som tum, and green curry—I’m also a fan of cheap street snacks. Though there are plenty of Thai restaurants in Singapore, I don’t see as many Thai snack stalls around. That’s what makes Bao Whaan Thai Street Snacks, a newly opened coffeeshop stall in Bukit Batok, all the more special.

Bao Whaan Thai Street Snacks operates as a small grab-and-go kiosk, where you’ll find over 25 kinds of Thai pancake rolls ranging from $1 to $2. There are sweet and savoury options, or a blend of both if that’s what you prefer. The Cream Custard Egg Threads ($1.50) is a popular pick, featuring a thin, crispy pancake with a generous dollop of meringue and finely shredded egg threads.

If sweet desserts are your thing, go straight for the Chocolate Banana ($1.50) or Taro Custard ($1). There are plenty of savoury options too, including Crab Stick Ebiko Mayo ($1.50), Sweet Chilli Paste Chicken Floss ($1.50), and Chicken Ham Egg ($2).

Since you’re already there, grab a bag of Pandan Kueh ($3): soft, chewy mini pancakes with a distinct pandan fragrance.

The snack stall is a 14-minute walk from Bukit Batok MRT Station. If you don’t want to walk in this heat, you can take a bus instead. It opens at 7am every day except Monday, making it a great pitstop for a light breakfast for those working or living in the area.

If you can’t get enough Thai snacks, check out the best things to buy at Aperia Mall’s Thai Supermarket. Alternatively, read our Bukit Batok West Hawker Centre food guide for famous chicken wings and more.
