Obongzip has XXL grilled tteok in Tanjong Pagar
If you thought that the oversized food trend was over, think again. While they’re known for their Korean BBQ, the Korea-famous restaurant Obongzip has recently gone viral for their newest creation: giant grilled tteok, AKA traditional Korean rice cake. FYI: The popular restaurant chain has over 300 outlets in Korea!Â

Sized as large as your palm, their Grilled Tteok ($28) is a dish that certainly impresses.
As soon as it reached our table, the staff cut the huge tteok into smaller bite-sized pieces.
We loved its texture: lightly crisp on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside.
Don’t forget to dip the tteok into their viscous honey dip. The sweet, aromatic flavours paired perfectly with the nuttiness from the injeolmi powder, AKA roasted soybean powder, which was scattered atop.
While you’re here, do yourself a favour and try out their other popular dishes, such as their Obongzip Special ($108++).
The platter includes three dishes: Spicy Buckwheat Noodles, Bossam Pork, and their smoky Fire-Grilled Spicy Octopus. Better yet, you get several free-flow banchan dishes to pair with it, such as edamame, chewy tofu skin, and house-made kimchi.
FYI, you can choose to have your meal prepared in their Mild, Hot, or Extra Hot spice levels.
The Bossam Pork blew our minds with its juicy and tender meat, melting in our mouths after just a few chews.
The Spicy Buckwheat Noodles were excellent as well: a generous serving of chewy noodles tossed with cabbage, seaweed, nuts, and a delicious sweet-spicy sauce.
While the restaurant is large enough to sit up to 50 diners at one go, we recommend heading down early as the place can get quite packed during peak periods.
Obongzip is located along Tanjong Pagar Road, a quick four-minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station and Maxwell MRT Station. It’s also within walking distance of Telok Ayer MRT Station.
