Most spots are within walking distance of each other along Jalan Sri Pelangi and Jalan Perang, making it an easy neighbourhood to tackle in a single afternoon. 40 Johor Bahru Cafes Near Customs, Including A Seaside Cafe And Kueh Buffet

1. Brooos & Co by JWC

Brooos-and-Co-pistachio-latte

If there’s one cafe that puts Taman Pelangi on the JB cafe-hopping map, it’s Brooos & Co by JWC. Opened by the team behind JWC The Factory 30, the concept is deceptively simple: an ’80s American retro office, right down to the filing cabinets repurposed as a bar.

There’s a good selection of innovative, caffeinated drinks here, including the signature Please Chill (RM18++), which comprises milk, espresso, and pistachio paste. Other must-tries are the Coconut Latte (RM18++) and Cacao Coffee Martini (RM40++), a cheeky tipple perfect for weekend brunch. Matcha and specialty filters are available, too! If you’re here for the food, the cafe offers pasta mains, tacos, burgers, and hearty brunch plates, alongside a small range of desserts.

2. KACJ Coffee

Sometimes the best cafe stop is the simplest one. KACJ Coffee is a cosy, minimalist spot just a short stroll from Brooos. The cafe serves quality coffee, freshly baked goods, and a calm space to ease into the weekend.

All their bakes are made fresh daily in an in-house bakery kitchen. The standout is the Sea Salt Butter Roll (RM5.90), also known as shio pan. For something more filling, try the Shio Pan Fried Chicken (RM14.90) or the Taiwan Red Bean Mochi Pocket Sandwich (RM16.90). During our visit, the Iced Oat White (RM17) was a highlight, with a perfectly balanced milk-to-coffee ratio. The Iced Hojicha Latte (RM17) was also enjoyable—earthy and intense, though slightly sweeter than we preferred.

3. Yeon Cafe

Walk up to Yeon Cafe, and you’re greeted by a stone pathway leading to the entrance. The space is full-on Korean drama: fluffy cushions, macrame table runners, pastel flowers, and K-pop playing at just the right volume. Windowside seats go fast, so arrive early if you want the good spot for photos.

The food menu fuses Korean and Japanese flavours, with the likes of Prawn Katsu Kimchi Fried Rice (RM 26++) and Salmon Yuzu Ochazuke (RM33++), a Japanese dish of hot broth poured over sushi rice with crispy salmon and a bright yuzu finish. The Rainbow Kimbap (RM18++), a vibrant roll featuring rice and fresh veggies, is a crowd favourite too. For desserts, the rotating daily cakes are the highlight; on our visit, we enjoyed the Genmaicha Mochi Tart (RM12++) for its buttery genmaicha crust and chewy mochi filling.

4. Dusk by Mok Mok

Dusk by Mok Mok is the Taman Pelangi sibling of Bloom by Mok Mok in Mount Austin, and while both share the same owners, the vibe here is distinctly different—think Bali brunch cafe with bohemian-vacation vibes. The space is fitted with rattan chairs, warm earthy tones, trailing plants, and enough photogenic corners to keep your camera roll busy for days. The menu leans Japanese-Western fusion, with standouts including Chilli Crab Pasta (RM36++) and Curry Karaage Risotto (RM32++): creamy risotto with house-made Japanese curry and crunchy karaage chicken. For coffee, you can enjoy refreshing concoctions such as Limestone Espresso (RM16++), a zesty beverage combining lime, honey, sea salt, and espresso.

We recommend off-peak visits on weekday afternoons for a more relaxed experience.

5. Sweet Blossom Coffee Roasters

Coffee snobs, this one’s for you. Sweet Blossom Coffee Roasters is the kind of place that takes sourcing seriously. They curate their specialty beans, roast everything in-house, and offer filtered hand-brew as the main way to drink. The rotating bean selection changes with seasonal availability, so there’s always something new to try. If you’re looking for beans to bring home, you’re in luck—Sweet Blossom sells retail coffee bags too, and even runs a coffee subscription service with monthly deliveries to Singapore addresses.

Their filters cost between RM19 and RM22, though you can also get a regular White (RM13) or Black (RM10) here. My personal favourite is the Espresso Tonic (RM15), a fizzy, ultra-refreshing pick on a hot afternoon.

6. Rowan & Betty

If you’ve been to Rowan & Parsley, then Rowan & Betty will feel like a familiar face in a new neighbourhood. Opened in 2026 as a sister brand, it occupies the second floor of a shophouse on Jalan Sri Pelangi 3, just a short walk from Brooos and KACJ. The space leans vintage and retro, with mismatched furniture and warm lighting that makes it feel lived-in rather than styled.

The brunch menu is where Rowan & Betty earns its stripes. The Chopped Beef Cornedict (RM39++) is a creative eggs Benedict riff—think finely chopped beef instead of the usual ham or salmon, with hollandaise that actually has some body to it. For something more unexpected, order the Chicken Tikka Masala with Roti Canai (RM22++): spiced, creamy tikka masala served alongside flaky roti for scooping. Coffee starts from RM9++ for black and RM12++ for white.

Address: 27-02, Jalan Sri Pelangi 3, Taman Pelangi, 80400 Johor Bahru
Opening hours: Sun-Thurs 10am to 6pm, Fri-Sat 10am to 10pm

7. Cha Haus

For every five matcha latte spots in JB, there’s maybe one that puts tea at the centre of the whole experience. Cha Haus is that one. Opened in September 2025 , the new-ish cafe pitches itself as a “modern tea sanctuary”, and the space lives up to the brief: airy, calm, and designed for lingering rather than quick hits.

The drink menu spans fresh milk teas, tea-based cocktails, and fizzy tea beers that are more interesting than they sound. For something refreshing, go for the Chilled Jade Dew Green Tea (RM17.80), which is clean and lightly floral. If you want something richer, the Dark Pu-Er Fresh Milk (RM18.80) has a deep, slightly earthy character that pairs well with a sit-down break. For the adventurous, the tea beer options are worth exploring!

8. 9% Coffee

9% Coffee is a specialty coffee cafe tucked inside Pelangi Avenue, making it one of the more convenient stops in the neighbourhood—especially if you’re already in the area and need a solid caffeine fix.

You’ll find a wide range of fusion mains here, with Google reviewers raving about the Fillet Fish Fiesta (RM 21.90++), AKA fish and chips, and Signature Tom Yum Seafood Pasta (RM17.90++). The cafe also offers a small selection of rice dishes, such as Butter Milk Chicken Rice (RM14.90++) and Smoked Duck Fried Rice (RM12.90++). For drinks, their Dirty Taro (RM 15++) and Gula Melaka Latte (RM15++) are popular picks.

9. Dona Bakery/Poketwins Tiara

DONA-BAKERY-JBImage credit: Bubu Boo

Not every JB cafe trip needs to end in a food coma. For some healthier, but no less hearty, head to Dona Bakery/Poketwins Tiara for their poke bowls, loaded grain bowls, and house-baked sourdough sandwiches.

Their DIY bowls are a hit, allowing diners to customise their meal to their liking. Otherwise, the Beef Donburi (RM25.90++) and Japanese Salmon Noodle (RM 28.90++), topped with a shoyu-seared fillet, are worth trying too. You’ll also find a plethora of fresh pastries displayed by the counter!

10. Me & My Roro

me-and-my-roro-jb-FOODImage credit: @floppagel

Me & My Roro earns its spot as the wildcard of this list. It’s not quite a cafe, not quite a bar—it’s a Japanese handroll and tapas bar that opens from noon and runs till midnight, which makes it the natural last stop on any Taman Pelangi cafe-hopping day.

There’s a wide range of handrolls to try, ranging from Unagi (RM20++) and Salmon (RM18++) to premium picks such as Uni (RM88++) and Maguro (RM34++). If you’re in the mood for sushi, consider their Chef Selection Nigiri (RM88++), which comes with eight pieces. Budget around RM60 to RM100 for two diners, and you’ll eat well.

Address: 7, Jalan Kuning 1, Taman Pelangi, 80400 Johor Bahru
Opening hours: Fri-Wed 12pm to 3:30pm, 5:30pm to 12am, Thurs 12pm to 12am
