This Seaside Izakaya Has Gorgeous Views, Legit Yakitori And More In Admiralty

Ku-Kai Izakaya is a seaside izakaya at SAF Yacht Club

Walk into an izakaya, and you’re usually greeted with the same template: an intimate Japanese-style pub with a keen sense of nostalgia. Ku-Kai Izakaya, however, trades that intimacy for open-air views of the sea, creating a magical experience that many have likened to a Studio Ghibli film—though that’s a bit of a cliche.

You’ll find Ku-Kai tucked away at the SAF Yacht Club, which means travelling there can be quite the hassle depending on where you stay. But just look at that ambience: Japanese lanterns, beer crates as chairs, and sights of yachts and the vast ocean. It may very well be worth the trip for those who enjoy good alfresco vibes.

FYI: The izakaya is actually closer to Sembawang MRT Station than Admiralty—about a nine-minute drive to the former and 12 minutes to the latter.

As you’d expect from an izakaya, the menu here features a wide range of yakitori. The classic chicken options include Thigh ($4.80++), Thigh with Leek ($5.80++), Gizzard ($4.80++) and more. But there are also pork and beef options, such as Pork Belly ($6.80++) and even Wagyu Beef ($11.80++). Patrons praise the skewers here for being sizeable, juicy, and well-grilled.

Aside from yakitori, Ku-Kai also has dishes such as Wagyu Rosu ($36.80++), Charcoal Grilled Mackeral ($22++), and Oysters (from $12.80++). The menu here is diverse enough to have something for everyone.

Don’t forget to have some drinks while you’re at it. Japanese beer, sake, and umeshu are all available here, so pick your poison and enjoy the striking views of the seaside as you feast.
